Hi all. I've not long bought myself a vx ss and I don't think the standard Eurovox head unit and speakers are going to cut the mustard. I've been searching the forum and found a lot of what I need to know but there's a few questions I still have.
I have an Alpine CDA-105Ei head unit I plan to use. So far as I can work out, I need to get some sort of converter to connect it to the steering wheel controls - a pac something or other. Any idea where I can buy one and what sort of price I'd be looking at? I'm guessing car audio shops would have something
The car doesn't have factory 6x9's, but I have a set of Jaycar's response kevlars I'd like to use. For the front doors I'll put in a set of 6.5 or 6 splits, not sure which ones yet, maybe the vifa ones jaycar have?
I want to drive both the splits and 6x9's from an amp. Is it better to drive them off one 4 channel amp or two two channel amps?
Has anyone tried to mount a small amp under the dash? I think it would be better to drive the front splits from a dedicated amp close by than from one all the way back in the boot.
Finally I plan to run a set of 6 inch coaxials in the rear doors and just drive them straight off the head unit.
Sorry for the essay. If anyone spots any major flaws in my plans or has any other advice it'd be much appreciated.
Cheers

The steering wheel kits cost a few hundred and yes most car audio shops will have/can get them. For the 6.5" splits, what sort of price range you looking at, we may be able to suggest something? Doesn't matter if you use one four-channel or two two-channels, but there would be more wiring with 2 amps. Considering that the power in the speaker cable moves at basically the speed of light, I don't think an extra couple of metres is going to bother it. And much easier to install in boot.

I wouldnt go vifa mate i'd only go the response gear, the vifa stuff i've used/heard isnt very good at all. The response kevlar stuff is ten times better.

Thanks for the quick replys. I like to use the response stuff but I don't think Jaycar carry the response or kevlar speakers anymore. Or at least its not in their current catalog. Except for the 6x9's (which I already have) and 4" coaxials. I guess I can go to the store and see if they still have any of it in stock.
My budget is fairly tight, but at the same time I don't want to go too cheap and nasty. I wouldn't like to spend more than $200 on a set of splits. I can't believe the steering wheel kits are so expensive. I have a feeling I may be able to live without the steering wheel controls if its going to cost that much.

No joke mate but try these 6.5'' Splits . If HCVP still has them for sale, you would be mad to miss these damn good speakers for this price, they retail for about $400.

havent had any issues yet, it is no different to what you will buy in a store, postage only took about 5 days too
What head unit are you running it with? It doesn't have my Alpine unit in the list of compatible units but the Alpine website says my head unit is compatible with PAC adapters.

I have a 9887, as long as your HU has the 3.5mm input in the back you will be fine
So I'm thinking a set of 6" kevlar Jaycar splits along with a 4x50wrms response amp (jaycar). I went to Jaycar this morning and they really are hopeless, they've dropped most of the good kevlar speakers and only have the overpriced vifa crap. I have found a mob online selling the kevlar splits so I can still get them. The 6x9's are 75wrms. They should still run ok on 50wrms shouldn't they?
Are there any better amps in the same price category?
Cheers
