A fair bit of noobness here.

Hey everyone,

Just an inquiry towards speakers/subs/amps etc.


Firstly, headunits. When you go aftermarket and get a different one, where do you get the plastic slots made for mp3 players so it's all nice and neat, not all choppy?
I also didn't get the headunit's code when i bought the car, so where can I get it? My guess would be a local Holden dealer which will probably charge a ****load.

Secondly, For example if you had a 600w Sub, how many watt amp would you need? My cars a VY S UTE, and i'd end up getting 2 speakers + the amp + sub, but i have no idea what to get. I'd have to get a slimline to go behind the passenger seat.

Thirdly, how do you wire it all up? And can you get something so the steering wheel controls work with the aftermarket headunit? If yes how much and where from would be greatly appreciated.


Bit of nooby questions, but you gotta learn some how. :\

Also, what brands should I go for and what are average prices? Max sub I'd go is a 12inch, but would it fit in the passenger side with still enough leg space for them?

2.if u get a 600w sub or watever (doesnt matter what amp u get if u want it just for your sub get a monoblock witch will power any sub when it says 600w that is at its peak point before it shits itself )
3 price . shop around for watever u can afford
4. wiring up is piss
4.1 for your headdeck ur gonna need a 12v tester light Disconnect the existing wires 1 at a time and check for power if u find 1 with power great that is constant power witch is 12v main then turn your acc on and find another wire with power when u find the light turn acc off light goes off confirmed thats your acc power
connect negative the black wire 2 the existing if u cant find it find some metal u can screw a new 1 2(aerial most of the time earths itself so yer)
bang head deck works now time 2 test the speakers Read the instruction manuel left right etc cut the existing wires make sure its not power wires they should all be used already find 1 speaker at a time and match it 2 the right channel.Can connect up aerial etc if u like up 2 u
4.2 while everything is out you would wanna do your amp wiring kit connect the rcas the rear output/subwoofer output and run them 2 where u want under the carpet etc
4.3 the blue wire with a white line through it is your remote wire u will need it 2 switch your amp on and off so connect that up and run it with your rcas ready where your mounting the amp put all your shit back 2g4
4.4 run your +12v from your battery through your firewall under carpet etc 2 amp mounting place
4.5 make a earth and connect everything up wella soundsystem

better 2 kno where 2 start then not knowing at all
