Default Can I keep my steering wheel controls with a new head deck

Hey I've been trying to find out weather I can keep my steering wheel controls on my vu when I put another head unit in.

I've read through alot of stuff and it seems very possible, I just can't find info specific to me.

First , the head unit. A pioneer DEH-P800BT. From what I can understand you have to have a compatable head unit. I think this is???

Second the steering wheel interface. Apparently this is what you need to hook the controls to the head deck. I've heard the infa red ones are bad because they need ongoing realignments. There fore I've been looking for a wired one but can't find one that I know will definatly work with my head deck and car

If any one could shed some light on this for me it wold be much appreciated

Yea I've seen 'the cat' but I think it has to be done by infrared in my case. I'm not really sure it's the best option? I'm just a bit weary of infrared cuz some one told me you have to realign it all the time. And common sense says a wired option would be more reliable.

    Are there any other options?

thanks man, that looks the goods. is that a 'cat' under a different brand? i looked at the 'cat' website and to me it looked like all pioneers would use infrared with it. but the link you put was much clearer. i'll definatly be gettin that. now i just gotta try n wire it. do you know if the wiring and programmng is very complicated.

thanks again for that link very helpful.

    No problem.

The programming / wiring wont be that bad, as long as you can interpret a manual you'll be right.......just take your time.
