Asking that question on here is just going to get people to list their favourite brand and most people on here would not have heard a wide range of subs

So I'll say whatever you like the sound of... Listen to subs in people's cars with your music, but even then it's not going to sound the same as your car, but it's better than a demo board.

How much do you want to spend? Do you need to buy an amp for it too? If so, how do you have to spend on the amp too? How much room do you have for a box?

Since you have such small speakers, I'd be looking at subs that can play higher frequencies better which isn't an easy thing to work out. You should ask this question on the Mobile Electronics Australia forums but give them all the details I asked for. There will be some guys on there that will know of some subs that will play well up into the higher frequencies.

You should have no trouble with metal music and 12" subs IF you pick them carefully. A cheap shitty 10" sub is more likely not to have terrible response than a cheap random 12".

Careful with the 4" fronts as well. A mate of mine used to have clarion 4" coaxials and they would distort at about half the level of standard paper-cone 6" holden speakers.
If you HAVE to stick with 4" speakers, then make sure you can high pass them so they don't get any bass. Either use your headunit or an amp if you are running them off an amp. This is VERY important if you don't want them to ruin your whole stereo.

As Stone said, go to a few different shops and listen to a few different subs. Try to find dedicated car audio shops rather than JB Hifi and Autobarn etc

i myself have listened to alot of different brands in different cars, for the music you like, i myself would go with a good brand of 10,s but like philthy said there are 12's that will hit nice and hard too, if you want good sound quality make sure you buy a good brand you will more than likely get what you pay for, also like philthy said jbhifi and shops the same usally sell the lower range of brands, like kicker they sell the comp series and tell you its one of the best subs kicker make, dont get me wrong the comps are good my misses has one with a kicker amp and it pounds just fine it all depends on how much $$$ you want to spend, and hearing diff stereos in other commodores always helps just check to see what they also got example... equalizer, caps, 2,3way crossovers, altenater, good battery all these things will improve a systems sound easily

So you have 6" Speakers for the front now? .. have you decided on subs yet? You may be able to get some harder hitting subs now that your front stage should keep up a little easier. Post back again and i can suggest some subs that i have heard and that i would buy for listening to metal etc.. but yeah apart from that you really have to listen to them yourself, but i could probably give you some direction..
