Default Replacing Car Stereo for Commdore VE - V6 - 2008

    Can it be done?
I have spoken to a few people who install stereos and have said that they wont do it, they made sure when they monopolized the stereo systems that you get stuck with them
I hope not as the sound system is terrible.
    Any ideas???
    Thanks

Other than getting your head-unit modified by ASR Audio, there is three other options available at the moment:

    1. Install a high quality line out converter (LOC), something like the Rockford Fostgate 3sixty or Audison BitOne. They arent cheap but give you upgraded sound quality and the connection of aftermarket amps etc.
    2. Install an aftermarket head-unit in the glovebox, can be done quite easily but means you cant control the unit when the glovebox is closed (remote wont work through glovebox).
    3. Install an aftermarket head-unit below the stock stereo (where the ashtray area is), this option is not easy nor cheap, but its a more practical option over the glovebox.

I have put in new speakers, an amp and sub but at any type of decent volume the sound distorts from the main speakers. When we hook the system up to an external high quality car audio system it sounds great so assume it is the crappy Blaupunkt head unit - does the Rockford Fostgate 3sixty or Audison BitOne fix this - as you say they aren't cheap and I don't want to commit to find it doesn't fix the problem. I am working with an Omega system. Thanks.

How did you hook up the amp? LOC? High-level input?

Also how did you set the gain on the amp? You should have it set so that it achieves the maximum power at about 2/3 or the H/Us maximum volume. Otherwise you are stressing the H/U internal amp and will get bad quality.

The Audison BitOne and Rockford 3sixty do improve the sound quality / volume, but not as much as a very good aftermarket head-unit ($400+). I am led to believe these units can also integrate an iPod / iPhone etc.

Personally, i would stick with the stock unit, the aftermarket options arent great at the moment.

Installer used a PAC LC2 LOC on high level input. He tested multiple gain settings, even without the LOC, different speakers, different amp and still the same result. He concluded that the signal from the Blaupunkt was "dirty". . It's all OK to about 22 and then the speakers sound crap. Any suggestions appreciated.

You need to turn off all auto adjust levels
just a straight throu flat signal - NO volume compensating - NO presets ie rock, jazz, vocal, etc
