Default VT stock 6inch pods? fitting 6.5 inch speakers?

    hey all,

i know that in order to fit 6.5inch speakers into the doors you have to trim out the door pods to suit, i recently purchased some type R alpine splits and another set of type R 6.5 inchs that wil probly fit but the problem i have run into is the mounting depth. The stock pods have a cover on the rear to prevent water dripping down onto the rear of the speakers if/when it passes the weather strips.. Just wandering if there is anyone out there that has run into this problem and has an easy solution. At the moment im considering cutting and remodeling the rear covers, have also considered spacing the speakers but there that deep i would have to cut into my door trim any tips would be much appreciated

    Cheers, later

Usually i just cut the cover from the rear of the pod if it restricts the speaker......ive done this on my own cars and never had a problem with water etc.

Others have made custom covers for rain etc after cutting the stock cover, if you search you should find some pics (im sure someone else posted pics).

I've cut the covers a couple times now and never run into problems with it. It's pretty common when putting good speakers in the front

My splits retails for more than that but I haven't had any problems in the 3 years they have been in the front or rear doors. Either just cut out the back of it or make some custom fiberglass door pods if your so worried. how to: fibreglass speaker boxes - Ford Australia Forums

No probs, I'm thinking of doing it myself, mid-bass is supposed to go up a decent amount. Also fiberglassing isn't very difficult at all, just time consuming.

My old splits retailed for $1,999 and I had no back cover... I just took them out after 5 years and they're fine. It's not something you need to worry about.

alright guys i did as follows:

Cut out the rear of the door pods and file out the edges to suit the speakers. I bought some sound deadining material which i stuck to the pods and moulded over the top of the speakers, improve sound quality and keep rain off the speakers

    voila

Wait, you did what? The sound deadener goes on the inner and outer door skins, not on the speaker pod, and definitely not in front of the speakers, you will be muffling the music if you do that.

Mate, just chop around it off, the grill covers it up anyway. You should be fine, and it will hold in place firm if done right,
