Default Im having trouble installing my sub.

Hi im installing my sub and amp but having heaps of trouble finding a gromet or room to fit my power cable through my firewall in my VS (manual gear box) iv searched most the blogs other people have posted and followed some instructions. None have worked or deemed possible.

Has anyone used a different technique besides goin through ur clutch gromet or the top left or right power looms?

Any info would be much appreciated, Cheers
    Hobbsy.

In my VS i ran my power cables through next to the copper heater hose in that grommet, there would be enough room for probably a 2awg or smaller cable. Alternatively drill a hole and put a new grommet in, though make sure you look behind the firewall in the cabin to ensure your not drilling into anything important.
    Cheers mate.

this is what I have done with my last 4 cars.

no f*cking around, enough room to run at least two 0ga cables on all the cars I've done.

pull the plastic out of the wheel arch, make a few holes, chuck some grommets in, and replace the plastic.

The first pic is a ford laser, the following pics are a commodore VL.

I have a hydraulic knock out punch, so you drill an 8mm hole, and "punch" it out to 20mm or so

on some of the commodores, you'll find holes already there for the radio antenna cable, and side indicators

I've seen people do this but dont suggest it, seeing as there is a cable in your wheel arch.

    ...and?
the wheel arch plastic screws on with most cars.

you can also attach the cable inside the arch, there's often already other cables running there!

I'd much rather have the cable exit the engine bay as close to the battery as possible, and avoid everything hot and moving thats in the engine bay!

I prefer to stick to running it straight from my battery through the firewall and into the cabin, i've only ever done this on all my installs and i know the majority of poeple on MEA do the same, unless they are building a dedicated sound car. Though agian, just my 2 cents.
    Cheers.

if there is no hole in the firewall, how do you suggest doing that?

Drill a hole in the firewall and put an appropriate grommet but 90% of the time you can safely 'sneak' the cable through an existing wiring loom grommet if you are not confident in drilling.

why would you wanna attempt to drill a hole through the firewall when its 10 times easier going via the wheel arch?

what don't you like about my method?

I don't think its ten times easier going through the wheel arch at all, drilling a hole in the firewall is simple and easy and quick, with the correct drill bit and grommet it takes 15 seconds and you have a perfectly sized hole with a nice rubber grommet straight through into the cabin. I don't like your method becuase your running a live power cable through your wheel arch. I see that as being more dangerous and risky than keeping it away from any moisture and moving suspension parts and moving wheels, also, running your cable through the firewall is the 'norm' for a reason, its the best way otherwise you'd see FHRX Studios and the like running power cables your way.
I'm not having a go at you here mate, like everyone else on here we are just people on a forum offering our opinions.
    Cheers.

to even find a bare spot in the firewall to drill a hole, you'd have to pull the entire dash out in most cars!

even attempting to run through an existing grommet can take hours!

I've done it on enough cars to know never to bother trying again when its 10 times easier going through the wheel arch!

please, show me where I can run TWO 0ga cables through this firewall?

you can't! ever! there is zero clearance in the engine bay, and zero clearance behind the dash, and you'd be just plain stupid to attempt to drill a hole there.

you're more likely to damage cables in the engine bay than in the wheel arch, you've got no chance of the cable becoming entangled in suspension parts, but I can see why you're against it.... because you've never even tried it!!!

Calm yourself down, Princess. I'm not in the mood for an arguement with another keyboard warrior so you can settle down on your logitech there and save it for 4chan.
    Cheers.

EDIT: He was talking about a VS commodore here btw if you read the top post. I've run 3 0 awg cables in a vs through the firewall lol.

it doesn't have to be "pretty" to be neat... but I prefer my installs neat.

I guess when its a commodore it really doesn't matter anyway.

Wheel arch is fine as there's a protective cover hiding it all and stopping it from getting anywhere near moving parts.

exactly! but for some reason, someone, has decided that because no one else does it, it must be the wrong way to do it.

Like I said, I've done it on 4 cars, no issues.
