Curious as to what the biggest size sub is that I can fit in the parcel shelf of my VT calais? I noticed the factory ones sit in some sort of spacer and from what I can see from underneath the parcel shelf there is quite a big hole there for a decent subwoofer. I haven't taken the parcel shelf of yet to find out and I have a gas tank in the boot so I haven't looked too far into it but would like to hear from people that have put subs in their parcel shelf and what size they got in there without cutting the steel work.
well the vx calais have 8" subs in the rear parcel but im sure you would be able to fit atleast a 10" back ther, heck a few years ago when i had my vk i modded the parcel shelf to fit a 10" sub so it can be done m8...... time and tools is all is needed
I reckon I could probably fit a twelve in there with a bit of work but what I'm after is trying to get the biggest sub without cutting any steel work or modifying the parcel shelf so it all looks stock from the inside of the car. I have a gas tank in the boot so even if I was to cut the steel then I would be limited on depth anyway.
The stock subs are 'free air' subs, 99% of other subs on the market are not and require a proper enclosure to work well. If you want more bass but want to save your remaining boot space then consider a fibreglass box off ebay that sits in the corner of your boot and takes up next to no room. Putting regular bigger subs in your parcel shelf will not sound good.

I built a couple of competition cars about a decade ago so I'm pretty sure on how I will mount the subs to get the best sound out of them. They will be in some sort of sealed enclosure that is integrated into the parcel shelf without cutting any steel. I know it will be a fair amount of work to achieve what I want but I'm also sure I can get it to work out. I'm after a complete stock look to the car so I don't want to see any sub box in the boot, all you will see is a carpeted cover to hide the gas tank and that will have an access panel to get to the tank to keep it all legal. Have been working on modifying the head unit so it has no internal amp but straight out rca connectors which then will have their voltage boosted to about 6 volt. It sounds like alot of trouble and it is but I want this to be different and to look like a factory stereo also.
