Alright,
So I have this Prolinear powered subwoofer that i bought from Repco for for $249.
It basically includes:
15" Subwoofer;
Box;
'800watt' Amp. Though really its about 400ish
Anyway, that part isn't really that important i suppose.
What my problem is? I'm not really entirely sure how to install it,
So first up, I was starting by laying all the cables and stuff from the front of my car top the boot, you know, RCA and battery (well I didn't get as far as that..). And also it has a Bass Control Remote, which I just need to find a decent place for..
Anyway, First problem:
When I plug in the RCA cable, my head-unit no longer fits in the slot thing. So, what do I do here?
Or should I just do and optional way of doing it (according to the book),which is to splice into the rear speaker cables?
Also, for power to the unit, where do i run the cable through??
It has two of those little ring type connector sort of things, that i guess go to the battery, but only one is long enough to reach the battery, the other is quite short, though it has this cable as long as the first that doesn't have a connector. I'm pretty sure you guys will want pictures or something? yeah? I'll get onto that tomorrow if my dad doesn't end up doing this for me ha ha.
Thanks for any help you can give, and sorry if this was hard to read/understand.
Cheers.
With the RCA lead put the head unit in and connect the rca at the back of the head unit. Not connect the lead then attempt to put the head unit in mate![]()
lol, is that meant to be a serious suggestion?
might I suggest getting some right angle RCA leadsor some adapters such as these.
RCA Right Angle Adaptor - Jaycar Electronics
I had the same issue, but as they were home made rcas, I simply unscrewed the back off the rca plug so they were shorter... not ideal, but good enough for me!
+1 for the right angle RCA connectors. I need to use them so my headunit fits flush too.
The short lead will be for your amp earth. Find a bolt it will reach that is attached to the metal car body, sand the metal back to it is shiney, then whack the ring terminal onto the bolt.
If you look at the firewall in the engine bay, near the brake booster there is a rubber grommet that you can drill a hole in and feed the power wire through. It comes out up above your pedals.
I've seen bass remotes in the centre console compartment, or in the slot under the CD player, both look neat enough when done right.
If this is the first time you have done anything like this it is probably best to have someone else give you a hand to make sure you don't do anything silly like not use a fuse

And my dad suggested me the right angle adater thinsg when he got home and had a loo, thanks guys for the quickish replies too, very helpful community.
Also, the suggestion for inside the centre console, I like that idea a lot actually, thanks mate.
Ans also the power cable stuff, your all great blokes. haha
i just filcked throgh the posts but all i can say is i have setup many of systems and know how to do it but my new system is going to the shop that i know buy from for ease and warrenty and they do a good job all im trying to say is ive been there done that and learnt that i would rather not deal with it im sure the next system you get you will think not this shit again and just pay some one to do a better job that dose this shit all day evry day
just my 2 cents
What do you need a warranty for? I had someone show me the first time I did it, and haven't had a problem in any install since.
Take your time the first few times and after that it will be a breeze.
I'll be buggered if I'll pay some guy hundreds of dollars to do what I could do myself in under 2 hours.

First thing I ever did on a car was a stereo install, and I was hooked. Now my shed is pretty much a workshop for all my mates, doing full suspension/brake swaps, clutch installs, big stereos...some fairly serious work, and now I'm in the auto industry full-time.
You would be surprised what you can figure out just by having a crack at it

that is very true you should buy a hoist for your garage
my first thing was a stereo to and im now a mechanic but my mates all want something for nothing so they can all get ####ed
haha, the beaty of being an aircraft mechanic! im ballsy enough to do my own shit, but when the mates ask "nah bro, i wouldnt even know where to start".
HOWEVER, im with you on getting pro installs. If you have good gear and you want to maintain warrantee, its gota be done by pros.
installing gear yourself doesn't void your warranty.
the only places that would claim it does are dodgy installers who just want your money, and will most likely do a poor job installing it anyway...
I'm guessing thats where most of you go to get stuff installed then :S
Anyways..
I have it installed. Sounds pretty good for, what I think is low-end or mid-range gear. I'm not really sure.
The Bass Boost remote is inside the lid/cover of my centre console, It looks pretty sweet there actually, the blue light from the knob is cool at night.
haha, now to hope my car doesnt rattle itself apart :P
One more question:
Should i wire a switch in for my sub woofer, as it doesn't turn off when i turn the car off, and i don't really want to have a flat battery at school! haha
For now i can make do with just pulling the power plug out while at school i guess.![]()
What wire did you use for the amps remote turn on wire? The amp should turn off with the car. Do you have another amp? Does it turn off OK? If so then just splice the remote wire off that one.
