Default need help - rears or 6x9?

    Hi all,

I've currently got an all alpine system in my VY exec.

    System reads like this :

    Alpine headunit
SWX-1243D Type X Sub (custom built ported box)
    SPX-17PRO Type X Splits
    PDX-1.1000
    PDX-4.150

My question is whats next? I've been using the stock speakers in the rear and my untrained ear suspects they've blown.
I'm trying to find a decent set of speakers that will live up to what the front of the car is putting out.

Any suggestions (would be great if you could explain why your making the suggestion you are) would be greatly appreciated.. baring in mind that considering the system is almost complete and uptil now it's all alpine i figure it makes sense to keep that trend going (although i can be swayed).

Thanks again for your help boys (i originally got some good feedback when i began putting the system together)

You could always go the Alpine Type R or X coaxials in the rear. Don't go 6x9's. Rear speakers are only for fill any ways who cares about back seat passengers.

nice amp (4.150). Guess U'd want to keep some rears then.
Have you got dynamat installed? I'd install dynamat (front doors or boot lid) before rears.
I agree with Wraith... say no to 6x9's. I'd personally just go with Type R's and save that extra cash from the X's. Unless you want to keep the trend of the X series. As a driver you tend to only hear the front speakers anyway.

I say #### the rear passengers (unless it's family hehe). They should be lucky they are allowed to be passengers and also have front X's to listen to! So who cares about them (imo).

Edit: (someone more knowledgable confirm) - being 4 channel, it's prob headroom overkill if you bridge the channels and just run the front speakers (but it's a option). Or you could go active system? 2 channels for drivers and 2 channels for tweeters.

yes do have the car sound deadened (although its not dynamat its some other brand).

I was thinking type R's but im getting the impression they dont quite marry up to the type x's (R's are all about loud noise correct?)

Ye. More SPL than SQ. My gf's got R splits in front and R coaxial in rear (she HAD to have rears). They do go pretty loud & she's running them at 150wrms (of a MB Quart 480 (320 x 2 (bridged))). They aren't top notch, but they aren't the worst either.

Edit: Everyone will say not to get 6x9's. I recon half of us don't recommend rear fill. IF you want to stick with Alpine, it's between the R's and X's. Go down to your local store, get a price for the 2 sets (coaxials), have a listen. See if the X's are worth the extra cash. Just remember that they are only rear fill... so as Driver barely noticeable.

I have tpye-x's in the front and type-s's in the back, both amped. They do the job for me and I'm very fussy about my stereos.
