Default What do you think of this setup

    subs(two) - Cadence ud-124h
amps - Cadence zrs7504(to run the speakers), fxa1500(to run the subs)
    Front speakers - Vibe blackair6
Rear speakers - unknown decent 6x9's, unknown because they came with the car and i havent actually looked at them yet.

All except the rear speakers for $590, value for money? Before buying these at Autosalon in Melb, was prepared to spend $1500 on a pair of Infinity Kappa 120.9w's and a Kappa One amp so I'm feeling a bit, iffy about these . But then i saw these in action and couldn't pass up the 80% discount, but I'm not sure if it was a bad move on my part lol. What do you think?

I'm thinking you should go back and get me some BlackAir speakers for 80% off.

Also be a bit careful with the ZRS-7504 running the subs, it doesn't have a subsonic filter so don't run the subs in a ported enclosure, unless you want to install your own crossover.

so explain how you would be careful with the amp. dont run the subs in a ported enclosure because the amp doesn't have a subsonic filter or install a crossover. Can you explain to the poster why?

Yeah, I'm actually interested to know why and how. Because the guy I bought the sub's off didn't mention anything like that, only said that they should be run out of a ported box! confused.

I was under the impression that you shouldn't allow frequencies below the port tuning frequency into the sub as it can bottom out the sub due to the lack of air suspension. I read that you can allow something like a half octave through but no more or you risk damaging the sub. If I am wrong them I apologize.

The isolating capacitors on the input of any decent amp will filter frequencies < 5-10hz. Most music doesn't have frequencies below 20hz. Most ported subs should be tuned at 20-40hz.

In a properly designed box you are unlikely to exceed the sub xmax (cone excursion limit) unless you purposely play really low test tones (<20hz). If in doubt, keep your boot closed as that will increase cone control. That applies to closed/sealed enclosures too.

    Sweet, thanks for clarifying.

So what are peoples thoughts on the sub, good/bad?

Well now that's cleared up, sorry about the worry mate.

I like the Cadence products, but I'm biased since I own 3 of their amps. The sensitivity of that sub is up there, that's for sure. They look pretty good too. How much will each sub cost?

Cool, well even if its a biased opinion it's better than none at all the subs cost me $70 each! So I'm pretty happy with that.

Yeah most of that gear was 80% off at Autosalon last weekend . Probably wont build the enclosures myself, I'm no where near good enough to do that unfortunately lol.

Who needs to be good at it to build an enclosure, get the wood from any decent wood store, get somewhere to cut it to size, I believe Bunnings can do this or any wood working shop, then just glue and screw.

I wish Autosalon came to Brisbane, I could use some more toys.

You know what the difference between a ported box and a sealed box is, one wall a few inches shorter and one extra wall, your basic ported design. If you need help designing one, then post up the specs for a box design that should come with the manual.

Ah, i thought the only difference was one had a hole for the bass to escape and one didnt. Might chew over making one myself then, we'll see .

If i get the spec's for my subs would you be able to run me through designing one(single box for both subs)?
