Here is a test light from Jaycar. Although you can get similar test lights from super cheap auto etc.

Basically, you attach the alligator clip (earth) to a metal section of the car.....the outer part of the antenna plug also works as an earth if you cant find something to clip it onto to. Then just "probe" the wire where it goes into the back of the stereo plug (if you havent cut it off already). If it has power going to it then the light should light up, if it dosent move onto the next wire.

If you need anymore help, dont be afraid to ask.....no matter how silly it might sound.

    Can someone help me out....

I've just put a new stereo in my VZ commodore wagon but for some reason i can't find constant power.

I've looked over your wire colour charts and i have a multimeter in hand!!

There is NO orange / white wire in the factory loom .... The Yellow accessory wire had 12v but now i can't get it. I could have blown a fuse ..... ( if so where is the stereo / acc fuse on the VZ ? )

    thanks!!

Is someone able to tell me as to how to wire the head unit so it doesn't cut out and re-start it self every time i open the door? (unit is wired in and working along with subs, but i'm tired of having to reset all the setting on the HU when i go for a drive).

    Hey all

What wire do I tap into to utilise the factory electrical aerial with an aftermarket Sony headunit in a VN Commodore that has a remote antenna wire (so it can still be moved via the dash buttons) ?

    Thanks in advance

You need to connect the blue (or blue/white depending on head-unit brand) to the yellow with a red stripe wire.

    Cheers mate

Connected the blue to the yellow w/ red stripe and antenna raises when radio is selected but then goes straight back down again (can raise antenna via cluster button but still doesn't stay up)

Is there another wire I should be tapping into as I'm assuming antenna module is thinking radio is turned off so is retracting aerial ?

Interesting, make sure theres power going to that yellow / red wire while the antenna retracts.
Could also try connecting the yellow / red wire to constant power (orange / white) and see if it still retracts.

Turned out to be a faulty antenna module so now working as it should.....

    I also have yellow, yellow/black and yellow/blue

Do i use the yellow for acc.? Not sure which to use for main/constant power..

EDIT: Just saw a post a few up that said it can often be orange/black. Do i se the orange/balck for my constand power?

    Cheers.

    Im seriously struggling

Have an 86 VL and trying to install a JVC stereo CD player

HAve looked at the colour guide but mine doesnt have an orange.

    Mine has...

    Yellow
    Grey
    Black
    Pink
    Cream
    Light blue
    Green

Well the male harness does anyhow

    My JVC has

    Yellow
    Red
    Black
    Grey
    Gray (Black stripe)
    Purple
    Purple (Black stripe)
    White

You also have to rewire the speakers as the factory wiring has common ground , not going to end well with an after market unit.
