Hey guys, we quite often get asked in here for colours and what wire does what. So, to help out. I have created this sticky topic. It's taken me awhile to compile this list but if you see any mistakes please let me know and I will amend them.
VK - VL
Accesories - Yellow
Constant - Orange
Illumination - Grey
Earth - Black/White
12V OUTPUT - Pink
Speakers
Front Left (+) - Tan
Front Right (+) - Light green
Rear Left (+) - Dark Brown
Rear Right (+) - Dark blue
All the negatives are joined together and are the light blue wire. Not many HU these days support the "common earth" system and as such require you to rewire the whole speaker set-up which in reality considering the age of the car isn't such a bad thing after all.
VN - VZ
Accesories - Yellow
Constant - Orange/White
Illumination - Brown/White
Earth - Black/White
12V OUTPUT - Yellow/Red
Radio Mute - Yellow/Black (VT onwards)
Antenna up - White (VR onwards)
Antenna down - Blue (VR onwards)
Illumination OUTPUT - Grey (VT onwards)
Speakers
Front Left (+) - Tan
Front Left (-) - Grey
Front Right (+) - Light/Green
Front Right (-) - Dark/Green
Rear Left (+) - Brown/Black
Rear Left (-) - Yellow/Blue
Rear Right (+) - Blue/Orange
Rear Right (-) - Blue/Black
Like I said guys, if you notice anything wrong then please let me know.
Hope this page is of some help to you all.
VB-VH coming soon.....
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
In the VX the brown wire is the signal from the steering controls. Needed when you use a Car Audio Transponder (CAT-08)
How come this lost it's sticky? Hopefully it can be restuck.
Muttley, it was removed from sticky at my request. There is a new sticky regarding a whole heap of questions that have been asked and this post is listed in their. But, thinking about it. Perhaps it would still be wise to sticky this one.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
Found a sticky in the electrical section here with stereo colours in an attachment so maybe you could just refer to that.
Just curious if you have compiled a list for a VH yet. Thanks mate
vh- yellow is 12V accessories, black is earth. no illumination, no 12V constant (run your own), speaker wires are pretty useless as they have a common earth and not really compatible with newer cd players
oh, and in my vr, im pretty sure that orange/purple is 12V acc, not orange/white
Semi. there are some variations. I can guarantee you though that the majority of them are orange and white. Not orange and violet although some were...

Saint Matrix. I didn't bother going back as far as VB-VH as there is only two wires that could be used and only one that SHOULD be used and that is the Acc wire. You should always create a new earth when installing any equipment.

On the VY Blaupunkt HU, does anybody know the wiring that goes from the HU to the dash? Even better, what type of comms it uses to talk to it! Toying with the idea of making a circuit to interface between the steering controls, my laptop and the dash display. I currently use a laptop with a FM transmitter for most of my music but plan is to build a touch screen PC into the ute at some stage, would be neat to be able to skip songs etc on the computer using the steering wheel controls, and display some basic info on the display.

Just b4 i installed my Sony i went to AutoBarn and for 15 bucks bought an adaptor plug, from VT to Sony...Voila...20 minutes later new stereo was working without ANY damage to the car...
I did the same for my Kenwood unit. Except I had to buy two adaptor kits from Supercheap. One Kenwood to ISO plugs and one ISO to the VX factory head unit loom.
Wiring the unit up literally took 30 seconds.
it's all well and good to talk about wiring adapters but this was put there for people who don't want to use the adaptor or have had the original connector removed.

ill test it when im doing it with a multimetre to see which one makes a connection with acc on and which one doesnt and post. i will be doign it in a few weeks
my web sitestuff on the XF throttle body conversion, calais interior and lots of other junk!
what is the 12v output and the illumination output used for? will not connecting these kill a power/illumination circuit in the car? just checking before i do something wrong. never encountered anything like that before?
the illumination wire is used to dim the CD Player when the headlights are on. Not many CD Players have this feature. So, simply tape the wire off. Failing to tape it off can cause it to short out and blow the fuse making your dashlights, parklights and tail lights stop working.
The 12V output is for any factory amps.

thanks man!
i just pmmed u so ignore that. so to get it clear, i use the illum or the illum output?
Just wondering what people can tell me about the wiring for the phone input on the VY with Blaupunkt HU. From what I can gather there's a plug on the passenger side that a kit can be plugged into? What are the wire colours for this plug? I wouldn't mind rewiring my CB so it goes in through the phone plug. Anyone know of any problems with doing this?

First problem which you MAY have. the two power wires in the phone loom (Constant and ACC are rated at VERY low currents. Sometimes the CB can draw a bit too much through them. I would suggest powering it thhrough teh ignition or straight off the battery.
Now, just trying to remember the colours :S
Orange = Constant
Black = Earth
Yellow = Acc
two blue wires = speaker
the other wire(don't remember the colour) is for the radio mute.

i have a jvc head unit putting it into a vt and i have power antenna outlet on the head unit so what does this connect to
which wires do the antenna up and antenna down connect to the head unit
Also in putting in my new head unit i i forgot to take my cds out of my old stacker in the boot and now since there is no power running to it i cant get them out whats the best way of getting them out
Cheers heaps 12V King, that should help a lot. Just to push you further, is the radio mute pull to ground or pull to 12V? Easy enough to check but thought it's even easier again just to ask ha ha!

call me cheap but i would rather save the $15(2 hours work for me not counting fuel $738.65/Litre) and spend 15 min cutting and joining wires. this would have been helpfull when i did mine.Originally Posted by VT_Acclm
