Hi,
My front VZ commodore speakers are currently experiencing an extremely bad crackling sound intermittently (through radio & cd). For the last few months, one of them has also been having trouble turning on unless I have the volume up very high. The speakers are running through an amp. Sometimes its a few days between the crackling, however it's been quite persistent lately.
I've attached a sound clip of what i'm trying to explain. Does this sound like an issue with the wiring, or are the speakers just blown?
Thanks.
That doesn't sound like any voicecoil crackle i have heard before, i could almost say its a wiring issue - as in 'the speaker is only just connected by one stand of wire' kind of noise. Sounds like static - a bad arial reception static. Try playing something more defined than vocal - perhaps a tone or some technoish stuff to hear if the speaker is coughing. Also try wiring another speaker to the amp in place of the dodgy one, thall help you isolate the problem![]()
Have you checked your earths mate? And made sure none of the speaker cables could be shorting out by touching the chassis anywhere?

what you could also try (if you cbf) is cut the existing speaker wire from the head unit that runs through the door, and run a new one to each speaker.
does it crackle when you open the front doors? speaker wire could have a split after years of the door opening and closing and could be causing the cracking.
