    Default VX: Stock Subwoofer Location?

    Hi Guys,

I have recently pruchased the stock subwoofers out of a VT/VX calais with the intent to install them into my VX Belrina. The only problem is, i am not 100% sure where they go?

If anyone could supply me with a little information as to where they go, that would be great.

Also, a photo would be awesome too.

    Thanks Trev.

p.s. yes, i have done a search and came uo with nothing.

I'm pretty sure they went in the parcel tray. But I'm pretty sure (not 100%) the Calais had a different parcel tray to fit the sub in, whereas the Berlinas only have those two cutouts for 6x9"s.

personally. i woundnt use the factory subs.

i would be looking at getting some beefy 6*9's to go in the back.
i hear the kenwood 7*10's produce heaps of bass..

the factory calais 8' rear speakers do go on the rear parcel shelf, but they fit in a plastic factory mount, that is screwed via self tappers to the parcel tray above the 6x9 cutout holes. the mount raises the speaker up so they clear the parcel shelf.
i don't have a photo of them, (could probably get one on the weekend if you really needed) you should be able to pick them up at any holden dismantlers.
they were also wired up thru a tiny little amp looking unit which was located behind the passenger side boot carpet, on the outer side of steel frame work.

i've tried all sorts of speaker combos, and if your on a tight budget, i tend to aggree with the 6x9 comments above.

    Thanks for the info.

I would appreciate a photo if it is not too much to ask.

I do not intend on running the stock subs. i i am just gonna use the brackets, and get a nice set of 8 inch subs.

does the parcel shelf 'garnish' (if you know what i mean) change between calais and berlina? what i mean is, is the carpet part a different shape to fit the subwoofers in.

    Thanks for your help guys.

you wont have much luck running after market subs in the factory location, as the factory subs are pretty low profile.

pioneer make a free air, shallow mount 8" (and 10-12" too), i've got a pair of the 8's mounted in the factory (slightly modified) speaker mount in my calais. parcel shelf
i still had to hammer out the 6x9 opening a little for clearance tho.

i wouldn't really recommend them tho. it rattles the sh1t out of my rear shelf. i don't think it sounds very good at all.. they don't make as much bass as i wanted, but then, i don't really wind them up cos of the rattles.. tho if you crank it far enough, you can't hear the rattles :-)
if you go ahead with it, look for a method of bracing the parcel tray, with a big sheet of mdf or something.

i have had both a boxed 10 and 12 in the car at different times which were so much better. only downside was loosing the boot space. but i much preferred feeling the bass they produced.

i ground down the lip, to make level for the speaker, as the pioneer speaker wouldn't fit inside the recess

hope this is of some help for you Trev.
    cheers.
