Hey guys, just a few quick questions regarding install of my new system. Im not new to wiring up my cars and installing audio systems but am new to multiple amp setups. My main issue is how i will run both amps off one set of RCA's ( 4 Channel Option audio 160rms x4 and 800rms Mono) as so the mono sends low frequencies and the 4 channel sends higher. Plan on running the 4 channel to my new 140watt rms Splits and either 6x9 in parcel shelf or a second set of speakers in rear door. Wiring is not a problem but just need some information about wiring the RCA's and whether i need an electronic equalizer. If anyone could shed some light on installing the whole setup would be great. Happy to answer any questions. Regards matt
depending on your headunit. some headunits have 3 sets of RCA's out the back..
if not then just get splitters
run the headunit on full range
and tune the amps accordingly..
so the sub will be running LPF (under 160hz)
and speakers will be running HPF
Thanks mate will look into it. Any other info from anyone is great![]()
Don't buy 6x9"s if you have a sub, 6x9"s are designed to play lower frequencies due to their cone having a similar surface area to an 8" sub, they are mainly for people who don't want to sacrifice boot space. But to be able to play lower they sacrifice higher frequency sound.
You have a fairly powerful 4-channel amp so you may as well make use of it. Get you lesser set of splits and put them in the rear door, or parcel shelf as you like. But set the gains so that the fronts are louder, and it sounds like the sound stage is in front of you.
Then as aazn suggested, run a set of RCA (1-female to 2-male) off the rear channel and use it to run the mono amp. Set the 4-channel amp to HPF about 80-100hz as you like, for front and rear, and set the mono amp to around the same frequency on its LPF.

Thanks for that acarmody. Yeah sounds great. Had read after that post to get rid of the 6x9's or atleast keep the ones i have got but run them off headunit and keep the 4 channel in reserve for 2 sets of splits. In regards to RCA ( only have one output on headunit ) do i split that single RCA into two sets to each amp or do the amps have their own output. Thanks
if your 4 channel has high level input ports you could run the rca's to the mono and the high levels into that?
It is possible to split the RCAs more than once. So split the original pair so you have front and rear, then split the rear to rear and sub. Check if either of those amps have RCA outputs, if it does than that means you won't have to split it so much. An output give you an unchanged signal that you can run to the next input/amp.
