im buying new front speakers and what has people run that are good splits
i was looking at alpine type r component 2 way speakers are they any good?
to chanhge speakers is it as simple as cutting the wires and hooking up te new wires?
thankss
Do you have an amplifier to run them? $300 components will not give you $300 value for money running of a factory, or even aftermarket head unit for that matter...
6-6.5 will fit in , either drop in or a small amount of modification.
Type R's are ok, ad it seems they are a lot of peoples first choice, i guess that is largely due to the amount of advertising done by Alpine. Truth is though for equivelant money there are far better sounding speakers on the market.
Budget in mind?
Future plans/ /upgrades?
Previous install experience?
installing speakers are pretty straight forward.
cut the existing speaker wires, extend them to the crossover. crossover is labeled, so follow wires to tweeters and woofer.
choose somewhere to mount the tweeter (top of the door trim towards the front of the car, that black triangle is a installer favorite)
i got kicker splits in the front...heaps of bass, set me back bout 270 bucks...
its a fiddly job tho man installing the crossovers,
wouldnt recommend unless you have a rough idea of hat ya doing.
plenty of space behind the door trim..
i was able to get 10" woofers in my doors as i though 6.5" was not enough..
and with the tweeter.. i put in horns (like night club/PA tweeters)
i just like showing it off
only downside is you they need their own channel (so you need a 4 chan amp to power the front speakers)
no need for rears.
shameless plug..
450+ post and you an buy them off me.
VT-VZ front door trims with 10" woofers and HUGE horns.
thats one evil looking dog lol
i have a pioneer 4 channel amp running speakers atm as well as alpine deck, amp and sub
im fine with amp/sub wiring speakers do sound a bit complicated however didnt realise it would be more thanjust snip and attacxh
any recomendations if not type r
If your 4 channel amp is already running your fronts, then it's quite simple.
Basically removing the door trim to expose the old midbass driver, and the dash trim to expose the tweeter. Mounting the new crossover, and re-connecting the wires. Making sure the wiring from the speakers > crossover>amp is also suitable to be re-used.
Last thing you want on your newly purchased speakers is some dodgy bit of wiring somewhere along the lines that you didn't even know about. Wire is cheap, even good wire is cheap, so it makes to sense to replace it.
What are you chasing out of a front stage upgrade though? I'm guessing your budget is around $300-400 basing that on the RRP of the Type R's.
For that money you will find components aimed at all different types of applications, so it's worthwhile putting a fair bit of time and research into it.
One thing i will stress though, is at that price range, it is very important that whatever you do buy, you ensure you are getting the most out them. If this means spending less on the components themselves, to make sure they get a correct install, then that's a sacrifice well worth making.
My suggestion would be to bridge your current 4 channel amp to drive the front speakers on their own. The rears if needed can be run off the head unit's in built amplifier. Having some head room for your front stage will allow you to get the most out of your new speakers without running into any power issues with the amplifier.
thanks foir thge help that was good, i will prob have ago myself when i get around to puurchasing them
yes my budget is around 400 but money isnt a issue as i want quality
im looking for speakers that will provide clear sound and a good bass kick
recommendations?
I have a pair of Focal 6.5" splits (around $300 5 years ago), running off a Pioneer 2ch amp, and a JCV Exad headunit. This is combined with a Pioneer 10 inch free air sub hooked up to an Alpine V12 amp.
Very happy with the splits. Sounds quite refined with no harshness. but I suppose everybody's perception of what sounds good is different.
My last set were Pioneer bullets and I just couldn't cop the harshness after a while.
In the VP, behind the glovebox is a shelf. I mounted the cross overs on that, rather than putting them inside the door.
