    Default Any advice?

Just looking for some advice - Car audio newbie here

I have a Sony cdxgt590ui head unit, I like the looks and it gets the job done. Just wondering if this splits/amplifier combo would give me decent sound, and if anyone has any feedback on the items? Obviously i'm not looking to spend a fortune. Any other known good bang for my buck products?

Shopping Secure - Car Audio Specialists - SPL Dynamics SD-6.2
Shopping Secure - Car Audio Specialists - Ground Zero Iridium GZIA 2125HPX

All I want really is my music to play louder, without distorting, and sound decent. And this is just for now, eventually i'd like to get another amp, monoblock and hook a sub up too.
Also, got a 2000 VT acclaim s2, if that makes a difference

    Thanks for any feedback.

You pretty well picked 2 of the best value for money components as it is.

The only thing i would consider doing differently, (budget pending) would be a slightly more powerful amplifier. Not nessacary by any means, but it would just give you a bit of head room above the rated input suggestions for the SD 6.2's.

Once you have your sub sorted, you can run your fronts on a HPF and you will notice a big improvement in how loud they can play without distortion.

A more powerful amplifier won't make a real difference initially when you are running them in full range, or full pass.

But once you start running them on a HPF, that's when they will be able to make the most of the extra power. It also dosen't mean they will be any louder, but if you are listening to your music loud, then your amplifier doesen't have to work as hard to drive them. The less load on an amp the cleaner signal it can provide. When you run an amp to it's limits, or close to, that's when you get the most audible distortion aswell.

I wouldn't reccomend spending any more on the amp, than what you are on the speakers though. More money spent on the speakers, and less on the amp, will always yield better results than if you were to do it the other way around, provided of course that the amp is still suitable for the application.

At your price range, i would look around and try and find a suitable used amp. Buying speakers used can be a bit risky, but amps depending on their age, are usually are safe bet. Being in a major city (Melbourne) usually there are more used components available. Are you open to buying a used amplifier?

Oh thanks for that explanation, that cleared a lot of things up.

I would definitely be open to buying a used amp. I suppose lastly I have to ask, how would I go about installing these products. Better off taking it somewhere and paying someone else to install for me? Or research up and give it a shot myself? I'm usually pretty handy with my hands, only thing i'm worried about is wiring up correctly/neatly and having all the required materials/tools to hook up myself.

Thanks again mate, you been great help so far!

Are you anywhere near Chelsea? There is an amp on Ebay ending in 2 days if you are.

It's an Alpine 4 ch, but you could bridge the 4 channels to drive the 6.2's. This would give you 130 rms x 2.

Alpine MRV F340 4 Channel Bridgeable (eBay item 160508835331 end time 27-Nov-10 11:55:54 AEDST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats

If you could get that for under say $120 it would be a good buy.
