Hi im pretty new to car audio but i am getting sick of the crappy factoy stereo/speakers in my vy ute. I have had a look around a few local audio shops but the prices don't even compare to buying from the usa. i have a budget of around $1800 (but it could probably be streached a bit if needed).
from this budget i want:
Double din head unit with a 7" screen,
Decent pair of splits,
One or two subs,
2/4 channel amp for speakers,
Mono amp for sub,
wiring,
Materials to build sub box/boxes (i will have no trouble designing and building sub boxes).
I am tossing up between these two headunits which come with free wiring harness, facia kit and antenna adapter.
Alpine iXA-W407 (ixaw407) - Sonic Electronix
Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD 7" Touchscreen TFT-LCD Monitor DVD Player
also in the future i might look into adding navigation units. Does anybody know if i can get the australian maps for the usa nav units or if the aus nav units would be compatible with the headunits?
As far as splits go i am open to sugestions but i would prefer to stick to known and trusted brands
maybe
Boston Acoustics SR60 - Sonic Electronix
or
Rockford Fosgate T1652-S (09-t1652s) - Sonic Electronix
im not sure if i should go with a shallow sub behind each seat either 12 inch
Rockford Fosgate P3SD212 - Sonic Electronix
or 10 inch
Rockford Fosgate P3SD210 - Sonic Electronix
(same price but slightly more postage for 12 inch)
or a deeper 12 inch under the tray next to the fuel tank of which i am open to suggestions.
i was thinking i would amp the splits with this which includes a wiring kit
Rockford Fosgate Punch P400-2 R/B Class AB Amp + 4 AWG Amp Kit
Im not to sure about the mono amp (depends on what subs i go with)
mabey this??
Alpine MRP-M1000 (mrpm1000) - Sonic Electronix
and wiring kit

postage will come to around 350.
Is there any thing wrong with any of the components i have listed? or does anyone recomend anything else?
What about a capacitor?

No capacitor, they are never needed.
List is ok, do you know anyone who has dealt with this store before, and had items shipped over to them?
I would lean more towards a sub in the cab, rather than near the fuel tank.
Other than that, i would look at allocating slightly more towards your front speakers, which can be taken out of the amp budget. More spent on speakers, and less on amp, will always give better value for money than the other way around, provided of course that the amp is still suitable.
Buying locally, i would look at something like a Mach 5 sub, rather than the RF you have listed -I simply divided your shipping quote into 1/3, and then added it on to the original price so it should still be close to the budget. http://www.affordabledrivers.com.au/...a60d73bf01f6b5 There is a 12' version also, however i would be more inclined to go with a 10'', especially in a ute cabin. I would rate the IXL over the Punch series that you listed.

Thanks for the reply mate but i think that sub would be to deep to fit in a box behind the seat.
one of my mates bought a head unit from them and was quite happy with how quick it arived.
I've book marked that site. Prices are very cheap on a lot of components, and shipping seems reasonable.
Did they quote you $350 for shipping, or how was it calculated?
I just added all the items i wanted to the shopping cart then went to checkout and clicked calculate international shipping. Its actully 380 not 350 i only had one sub on the list when it was 350.
They also have an ebay store but the prices are slightly higher to cover fees i assume.
Does anyone know if i would any isues playing dvds because of the region code?
