I bought a single-din JVC unit the other day and when I went to grab the adaptors today the bloke at Autobarn told me that I would need to cut and swap the permanent and accessories power wires. Has anyone had experience with doing this and can tell me exactly what needs doing? He said they don't make adaptors for the VX because of this reason.
Also, while I'm here, any tips on bracketing a sub box in the boot?
Cheers,
Mark.
well unless they stopped making them in the last 12months, the bloke is lying to you. I have one sitting in my car right now. I did have to buy two, and pull wires from one and put into the other because there wasnt any power ant, or steering control wires.
ebay.
Thanks, I might try another store and see if they have the VX adaptor.
If anyone else has any idea what the hell this bloke was on about please help. I'm wanting to get this all installed on the weekend.
I've heard of some adapters having a wire or two in the wrong spot and having to be swapped around. Anyways save yourself 25 bucks or whatever it is and just follow the wiring diagram stickied in the car audio sub forum.
Here it is- VK-VZ Stereo wiring colours.
Thanks. A guy at Repco got on to someone from Aerpro for me and he reckons the VT adaptor is what I need along with the APP8JVC2. Does anyone know the difference between a APP8JVC and APP8JVC2? The Autobarn guy sold me the APP8JVC but they look completely different going by the Aerpro website.
Also, is there a general consensus on the best place to run your power and RCA leads from the bonnet to the boot? Anywhere in the firewall I should be looking for in particular?
General rule of thumb is that you run your RCA's and power leads down opposite sides of the vehicle to avoid interference. I've run them both down the same side plenty of times with no problems, but if there was an issue you wouldn't want to have to run them all over again.
As for where to run through the firewall, i'm not %100 as i've never done an install on a VX, but i'm assuming they are the same if not similiar to the VT. In which case this might help you -
VT Firewall Grommet for Amp Power
I can't comment on the Aerpro adapter as i've never used one. With the problems getting them from different stores due to availability, staff who don't know anything about them, and some of them having pins in the wrong order, it always pays to just wire it up yourself.
If your confident about running your all your amplifier cables, then you shouldn't be put off by the H/U wiring. Your going to have to attach the trigger cable anyway for the amp, and connect your RCA's, so your already there you may aswell do the rest yourself. You've got the diagram up above in my other post, if you take your time then there is no reason for you to have any problems.
