Looking at fitting some after market speakers to the front doors of a VT and I know I need 6" speakers but most are 6.5" and most are different sizes, 158mm, 157mm,152 mm, etc. in diameter. I am wondering what is the diameter of the standard speakers, as I don't want to cut anything to fit them, just a straight fit, or does anyone know what speakers willl fit without any modification.
Thanks
The standard ones are 6 inch.
It's hard to find a speaker that just drops straight in and lines up with existing screw holes. Nearly any speaker you buy will require some slight modification of the mounting ring in order to fit.
As the VR-VZ uses 3 screws arranged in a triangular shape you will firstly need a speaker that has alot of different mounting holes....forget the cheap ones as they dont have those mounting holes.
The old Kevlar series 6" splits fitted in those pods perfectly, but i dont think you'll find them anywhere now.
I have fitted these Kenwood co-axial speakers into most models (VR-VZ) and have found they sit in there quite well and if you turn the speaker around abit you should be able to line up the standard mounting holes and use the standard screws. You will need to adapt the standard speaker wiring plug too, which can be done using some male spade terminals crimped onto the speaker cable that comes with the speakers (shortened ofcourse) and just the insulated female spade terminals for the new speakers.
