hey guys
i have sony explode 6x9's in custom box sitting on parcel shelf in my vs ute which can handle 300watts. and sony xplode 6inch in the doortrims which max out on 190 watts.
there just running of the head unit at the moment and i wanto get alot more out of them
i am building a 12 inch box to fit into tray which will give me bass into the cabin
how many watts should i be looking for to get good clean bass for a new sub and what time of amp for the sub and speakers.
also should i bother getting tweeters?
any products people recommend would be greatly appreciated
Allright im not real sure on where to start -
What are the 6'' you have in the front doors at the moment, are they a coaxial? From the factory they came with a split component system. A midbass / midrange driver in the door , and a dash mounted tweeter. If you have replaced them with a coaxial speaker, there is no point in adding additional tweeters, a coaxial has a centre mounted tweeter.
Are you planning to amplify your current in car speakers? How do you find the sound with the 6 x 9's behind you and so close? If you think they sound fine and you don't have any issues there, then begin with a 4 channel amplifier. Once you have a sub installed though, you are going to want to run a high pass filter to your speakers.
As for the sub, the rated input power, or "how many watts" is irrelevant really. The amount of power a component can handle has very little to do with how it will sound.
How big is this enclosure for the sub likely to be? You may be better off looking at some slimeline subs that will fit behind the rear seats.
Otherwise how much are you wanting to spend?
the 6inch speakers are just splits that are 2 core speaker wire. if that helps i dont really know much about them.
the 6x9s are good there in a box with them together sitting in between two front seats on the parcel shelf.
how many watt 4 channel amp should i be looking at?
and should i buy one that is bridgable?
the sub will be sitting in a custom box in the tray and i am planning for a 12 inch
the cheaper the better but i would rather pay for quality
thanks hcvp
Bridging is just connecting multiple channels together to form half the amount. In other words you could bridge 4 channels into 2 channels. All it's doing is making each channel work at halve it's normal impedance load. In your situation it's irrelevant anyway so don't worry about it.
If your front speakers are splits then they allready have a seperate tweeter. If it's not visible then it's most likely in the stock location. Poke you head up around the top corner of the dash board you'll hear them.
Good thing about ute's is that you get so much cabin gain. When you say in the the tray, where are you reffering to? Are you talking about next to the fuel tank? If you are i wouldn't bother. Just fit a slimline sub behind one of the seats. If your short enough and you don't have your seat all they way back when your driving, you can add one to both sides.
With regards to your 4 channel amp, power again is a little irrelevant. They are only basic entry level speakers anyway by the sounds of things. Basically any amplifier is going to deliver more power to them than what the head unit provides. If you must put put a number up then anything from say 4 x 80 rms and upwards will be fine.
sweet thanks so much for your help
yeah good advise there..helps me tooo
