Hey guys. got a dual amp setup plus 7" LCD screen pioneer headunit.
I havnt seen how long i can run them all.... last week after installing it found i still had plenty of juice left after watching an episode of how i met your mother at the coles @ glenelg.
My install is actually in a 2005 clubspec evo wrx..... yes my fun car.
In the VR I was looking at a Dual battery installation but this time around I dont think thats really the best way, anyone had a capacitor install?.... looking at the best way i can safely get a few hours out of the car without killing the battery, and without killing the alternator when she's running again
capacitor wont help one iota for running times. dual battery system, or get some gear that doesnt draw as much power, will help increase running times.
yeah kinda figured cartoys would be full of shit like normal. I nearly have my diploma in systems engineering and do audio wiring and electrical trouble shooting (for what i know ) for extra dosh on the weekend.
Tried to make the capacitor sound like a mini battery....... last time I checked a capacitor regulated voltage to a degree..... unfortunately I only get to learn off what i install etc..... havnt had the opportunity to play around with one.
Save yourself the time wasted playing around with one and don't consider it an oppurtunity.
A capacitor won't reduce the amount of current draw which is what will effect your running times. If the power supply is not up to the task then nothing you fit in between is going to make any difference.
I was thinking a jucier battery and upgrading the altinator.... anyone experience much with these?
When I got stuck with a volvo 240 5 years ago.... i was poor as hell but scrounged and got her a subwoofer, amp and some crap speakers (which i made custom crossovers for and made them half reasonable)
had the most booming shitbox in the hood. Car kept crapping itself powerwise, and it turned into how I got into car audio setups and stuff cos I couldnt afford any parts so I learnt how to problem solve.
Used to belong to an airforce technician who did all his own wiring, gauges etc, and found out after a while he worked in teh battery hole at the AFB so he just kept swapping batteries out. When my battery for it died the final death and was still under warranty they gave me what they called an 'audio battery' which was just the juiciest battery they had and it held up quite well, until I got in there and fixed up teh wiring.
Atm the wrx just seems to have stock standard battery.. tempted to put something in there that can take heavy abuse.
I don't beleive the CCA rating of the battery would make any real difference in your situation. A dry cell or deep cycle battery would be better suited for you needs.
hmmm i get trade from excide. dry exy might be the way to go
