basically when the sterio is turned up to about 3/4 it cuts out if anything other than just the sterio is running. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem? atm as far as i know it has a 55amp alternator and a 550cca battery but i think it is a few years old.
sony xplod
CDX-GT590UI : Xplod™ CD Receivers : Car & Marine Entertainment : Sony Australia
also it has cadence splits in the front i think they are 70wrms, 6" cadence speakers in the rear 80wrms, 2x cadence subs 300wrms each running off a 550wrms cadence amp, 1 cerwin vega sub 500wrms wunning off a jvc 450wrms amp
When you say the stereo cuts out, are you saying the deck turns off, or the music stops?
If you have the lights of your car on are they dimming with the base?
At a guess with what you are running, it sounds like you either need to get a new or bigger alternator. My VH used to do something similar with 2 x V12s in it. Got the alternator souped up, problem went away.
Yes if i have the head lights on they do dip with the base and the whole system shuts off.
It definitely needs a new alternator as when i turn the subs off it no longer cuts out.
But too bad as it'll have to wait till next year as rego due soon and well apprentice wages aren't the best lol.
My VH never had sound dropping out. Once you draw more power than the alternator can provide, the power comes from the battery, so you shouldn't get sound dropping out unless the battery is stuffed or too shit to support some minor current draw.
This is pretty easy to diagnose yourself...
What do you mean "whole system shuts off"? Does the CD player turn off? Obviously, if the CD player turns off then everything will because it controls everything else.
If the CD player is turning off, you need to measure the voltage at the CD player power plug when playing music... What's the voltage drop to when the Cd player shuts off?
Then you measure the voltage at the battery and do the same thing... What's the voltage at the battery when the CD player shuts off?
If the voltage at the battery is 12v or more, then you need new bigger power and ground wires to your CD player.
If the voltage at the battery is dropping below 12v, then you should try another battery.
How are your amps wire? What size power wire? What size ground wire? Where are they grounded? Do you have power distribution blocks?
ok well i have fixed it now i put in a 520cca battery 3mm straight off the battery instead of off the standard wiring to the head unit
also had to replace the fuseable link as it melted through power drain :/
