    Default Pioneer head unit troubles

Hey guys wondering if any 1 can suggest some ideas i can try. I picked up a DEH-P7850BT head unit cheap off a JC member recently $220 4 the misus's car as her old 1 packed it in. Neways seems like a lesson learnt not 2 buy 2nd hand stuff lol.

1stly which didnt matter 2 much but was an annoyance, installed everything correctly but found the cd mech wasnt working so it wasnt accepting any cds (mayb it got damaged in the post??) we were able 2 by pass this problem using the AUX ports and using a USB adaptor.

couple months on everything worked fine appart from the cd mech but now the unit itself is on the blink and doesnt seem 2 b getting power 2 work but strangly enough wen u turn ACC off the unit beeps as normal and the head units face slides out so u can detach the face if u want and then closes seconds after. Tho i noticed while the facia is out and u turn the ACC back on the unit actuually powers up as normal untill the facia is closed then the power is lost again.

Now i had a quick look used a test light and im gettin power in the battery wire and the ACC wire which would explain the power 4 the units facia but theres a resistor inline on the ACC line, can this b at fault? ive measured 998Ohms on the DDM does that sound ok?

got a feeling its the unit that has 2 b replaced again

The flexible cable that goes to the connector on the motorised drop down panel will be failing. Need and new flex cable and possibly the connector as they lose conductivity over time. Flex cable is $13 and connector is $10... Common sense and soldering skills? Or you could take it to a Pioneer authorised service agent... Or you could send it to actual Pioneer service department in Melbourne. Will cost those parts + $55 labour and possibly shipping. Unfortunately, the CD mech is up near a couple hundred bucks though.

Hey Kris ur PM box is full so hopefully u might see this thread instead but i'll give that number a call and see wat they say, if by chance i cant get them due 2 payment reasons (needing credit card only ectt..) i'll send the unit over 2 u 4 sure.

The cd mechs used, r these pretty the same in other pioneer models? or do they have different chassis builds, ribbion lengths and connectors ect...? or could i rebuild the faulty mech that i have with say another pioneer cd player that if i can find that i know that works and just change over some components or is it not that simple??

    cheers man talk soon Ant...
