ignore watts, it makes no difference to how a speaker sounds
just buy the ones that sound best to you, pretty simple really. just go visit as many specialist stores as you can taking along a selection of your own cds that you are familiar with and listen to every speaker in your price range. you will quickly realise which ones you should buy

Whats your budget? Your front speakers should be the best speakers in the whole car as this is where 99% of your music comes from.

    $100 new?

Used on either Ebay or forum will be your best bet.

What's wrong with the ones that are in there? If their not shot then just HPF for now and see how they sound.

For the money your spending they would be slightly better, but you would be best just saving up a little bit more. Around $150 starts to see you entry level splits from most manafactuers.
Otherwise keep your eyes on the car park style sales at WOW and places like that, you might find something there.

I personaly wouldn't recommend Alpine 6.5" splits.. I have them in my VS Ute.. sound okay, but personaly I think there is much better for a more cheaper price.. Precision Response make good speakers.. Jaycar sells them.. If i was to buy another set of speakers, i'd fish around for a set of 6.5" precision response splits, as they are the only precision response speaker that Jaycar doesn't sell anymore..

Yes. Your mono amp cannot be used to power speakers.
