Hey peoples,
I have a VE omega which i have slowly been upgrading the sound system in. I currently have the following installed:
Alpine PDX-5 amp
Hertz HSK 165 (6.5")
Hertz HCX 690 (6x9)
Now im Looking for a Subwoofer to go with, and i would like to know what size/brand/model sub anyone thinks would go nicely with this set up.
Cheers
JM
really depends on your budget and if you want quality or just bass
edit: also how much room you have/want to utilize

Sound Quality is the priority, although i do want it to have good bass. and as far as space, there is a lot back there so i am not too concerned about that aspect![]()

What about budget?

ok well unfortunately i dont know much about high quality gear i only know about bang for your buck bass. which gives you a nice thud but is not of substantial quality.
i.e. wont sound good with metal.
sorry bout that.
I'm pretty flexible in budget, i.e. if its worth spending more i would, but i was hoping to spend maybe $300-$400

..my biggest concern is the amount of power output my amp has as to what i could run on it
JM
So are you going to use the Alpine amps 5th channel to power this sub? 300WRMS? Also can you build your own enclosure or do you need a sub with one?

Some stuff to look up, they all seem to be able to be had for around the $400 mark.

yeah well thats the problem, im assuming theres nothing i can run with only 300W RMS?
so whats the best way to go (i am a bit of a noob, i should have mentioned this earlier) should i be getting a mono block amp. can i run another amp from the previous amp?
or is it possible to get away with underpowering the sub without that being to big of a problem.
JM
and i can build the enclosure easily enough, so im not looking for one with it.
JM
I got a Kicker Sub CVR 12 i had both the black and silver one they were prety good
Underpowering is fine, as long as the amp gains are set properly. Most SQ subs, especially in your price range, usually can't handle large amounts of power.
You could feed 10wrms into the amp and it would still work fine. Your 300wrms is plenty for someone chasing a decent amount of SQ. Hell my first sub had 100wrms and I thought it was the bomb.
Hopefully today or tomorrow some of the audio installers on here will see this thread and throw up some suggestions.
EDIT: Also the enclosure is what can make or break any sub. A top-of-the-range sub in a crap enclosure = crap, a decent sub in a great enclosure = good. But we can get some designs later when you pick the sub.

Hmm well, ive had a look around on Alpine's website and im thinking maybe a 12" Type R sub..
With sub boxes do they have to be square or can they be rectangular so long as they have the appropriate volume within? i'm just thinking, my gold clubs would fit in better if i could make the sub box run along the back seat![]()
