is there any brand with an aussie infulence so i can give them a nudge?
i don't think any are available yet the problem being that digital radio only works around major cities, therefore you need an analog system when you go out of range i don't think the have both in a head unit yet try contacting a few car audio store the should be able to help you out more...
I would have said Blaupunkt as i love the quality of my non-DAB Bremen MP76, but they seem to have got out of the Australian market completely. They used to have DAB models called Nashville DAB35/DAB47 and Woodstock DAB 54. I don't know if they were DAB (overseas standard) or DAB+ (our standard). Googling it there seems to be a few online shops still selling them both here and o/s. But even Blaupunkt's German website (Blaupunkt) doesn't list any DAB radios, and the Aussie website is long since dead.
Because DAB+ is new and still being rolled out there aren't many options for cars.
If you want something right now the best way is the buy an "add-on" unit like this one...
Highway (portable model) - Digital Radio - Home - ABC Shop
I know, it's a bit like FM transmitters, but it's much cheaper and can be taken with you when you update the car. I'm gonna buy something like that as soon as the country areas get DAB+ (we have nothing now). I'll wait for Holden to release their own fatory DAB+ radios - hopefully we don't have to wait as long as we did for in-dash CD on the base models and then mp3.
It's Exactly like FM transmitters. Except for a couple of very niche apps, it's like copying your DVDs to VHS.
I wouldn't hold your breath on Holden releasing their "own" DAB anytime in the next 5-10yrs. Till a few months ago they seemed to have thought that everyone was still using their CD collection in their car (which was at the time 10yrs behind the times). They will continue to be 10 years behind the times in many areas until they spend the next "unprecedented 1Billion" (yen) or so.
The best thing Holden could possibly do in the audio scene is remove the HVAX from, modularize and DIN the stereo.
I agree with that. I'm not looking forward to having this problem once i update to VE (hopefully soon). At least they have an audio input (i know the Berlina/Calais do, but does the Omega have it as well?) but i haven't actually been in a VE yet where i could test the SQ of the factory headunit. There's lots of VE's around so hopefully someone comes up with a decent aftermarket solution soon.
Hi there,
With the Blaupunkt units that have DAB won't work here as now the Aus system is DAB+.
If you would like to purchase Blaupunkt Branded units go to www.audioxtra.com.au and they are the new distributor.

Arty

As for the brand I have heard of it before but not familiar with it, seems to be tons of info and reviews about it though.
Without looking too much I am unable to see if it supports MP3 or if it has RCA outs but I assume it would.
Doh.. right after posting just noticed under the name it says MP3, I guess it does play MP3 after all but still unsure of RCA outs.
Pioneer had a DAB+ car at the launch party for DAB in Sydney a few years abck, maybe email Pioneer Aus and see if they have headunits for the general public yet, I am sure they do, but might be special order.
note: you might have to upgrade your car antenna, as they are different sections of the VHF signal range.
