Default Help please. Is this amp sufficient enough to run all four speakers

    Hi Guys,

I purchased a VE SV6 sportswagon 4 months ago and I want to start upgrading the sound system. First off, I would like to start by running an amp. I have an old 4ch amp, is it sufficient enough to run all four speakers with it.

    Any information would be great.

    Thanks.

    hey mate,
would depend on how loud you want your system and what the power handling of the speakers is. Any amp, generally speaking, with 4 channels will run 4 speakers it just may not be as loud and clear as you would like it to be. Comes down to how much power your amp puts out and the power rating of your speakers. (RMS rating not max power rating)

thanks for replying. The amp itself is 400 watts (max power) . I want to install 60rms speakers in the front and in the back but I would also like to know if this amp can be used with out RCA's.

If you mean your head unit does not have RCA outputs then it is possible to put RCA plugs on the end of standard speaker wire outputs. But in saying that i have never attempted to do so myself so i cant vouch for the quality of it. But if that is the case it would probably just be easier to buy a head unit with RCA outputs. And yeah that should run your speakers fine.

oh i didnt notice your amp actually had a hi input option, you should be able to run speaker wire from your head unit to the amp in that way. sorry didnt even notice that on your amp.

that actually made no sense as my previous post didnt come up. yeah thatll run your speakers. and if you mean that your headunit doesnt have RCA outputs then you can use speaker speaker channels to the hi input on your amp, never done this before myself though, always just used the RCA inputs. hope this helps

Its 400watts max. But It's should only be about 180-200watts nominal. So 4 x 50watts. Should be fine for a sound upgrade
