Default Remote wire on VE IQ system

I've just had the stereo upgraded in the ute with an amp, two splits and a sub, and now my stereo will only work if the key accessories is turned to on. The iq system continues playing my song once I stop the car, and it also plays when I get in and turn the key once - but I hear no sound.

I assume the remote wire for the amp is hooked up to my accessories switch on the key, and the installers reckon they might not be able to make it like it used to be when the soundsystem was standard.

My question is, has anyone been able to hook the remote wire up to an iq system properly so amped speakers play whenever the iq system does?
    Cheers,

    Mickey

This Holden IQ system has an iPod in doesn't it? I think you'll find that one of the pins on the iPod connector might able to act as a remote wire.
    Just a thought.

It does have iPod wiring, yes. I have an iPod in the car all the time so if it only comes on with the iPod plugged in that doesn't matter, but it would be nice for the radio to be accessible as well..

Regardless of the iPod being plugged in or not there still should be voltage on that connector. I'd have a look for an iPod female to male cable so you can hack that up instead of your actual car's wiring.

Where would the cable go, into my plug and then my normal ipod cable into that? Sorry, bit confusing haha.

Yeah pretty much. I haven't seen one of these IQ systems myself so I don't know how they work cable wise. Maybe you could get me a pic?

Sure...? I hope you don't mean a photo of the wires at the back of the unit? Cos I didn't take it out myself haha.

If it helps...inside the centre console there's just a usb plug that when an ipod cable is connected, acts as the ipod port for the iq system. as you said, a voltage wire would run to that.

Ah yep, that makes it easy then. What you need is a little .2m USB extension cable, put this between your USB slot and iPod cable. Chop it open and find out which one is the +VE wire (should be red), piggy back off that and run it to the remote of your amp.
Hopefully this will lead to happy days!

    Lovely!

Or, if I wanted to get really neat and tidy (being a detailer I'm a bit freakish like that) I could make sure that works and then pull the console up and do it to the normal iPod wire and hide everything hahah.

    Thanks bud!

No worries boss, I try and help out where I can.
Yeah that sounds like a solid idea. Most amps run off a 5v signal, hopefully yours isn't something weird like a 12v signal or it'll get a bit trickier.

    If it's 5v it'll work, if it's 12v it won't -simple!
    It won't blow up.

most amp's remote wires are 12v signal.

you may end up overloading the usb 5v circuit trying to power the amp, and end up with an inoperative stereo system.

i'd be connecting it to the ignition circuit at the back of the stereo, it will be on whenever the stereo is on. the switching is usually done by BCM.

You can dead short the USB + and - and nothing burns out - it's all current limited by the controller.

Indeed, that was my next suggestion if the USB remote wire didn't work.

So much decent information! thanks lads. I'll be taking it back into the guys tomorrow to get the stupid sub box replaced (too big) and I'll let them know all of these ideas to get the remote wire on the right connection.

    I hate dodgy installs.

So here's the verdict - sub box is being fixed but the guy reckons there's nothing else my amp can be hooked up to that will make it play whenever the IQ system is on. I asked him about splicing into the ignition unit for the IQ system and he said it doesn't have one. I asked him how it gets power then without a cord and his response was ''it's constant power. it's all CANBUS, if you want it to turn on you need another amp, you need a smart amp because that turns on as soon as it receives a signal'' and i mentioned hooking it up to the ipod cord because of the voltage through there that would more than likely feed a remote wire and he just said it wouldn't work.

So am I being fed crap because he doesn't want to fix it properly for me, or is the above plausible? I'm gonna be pretty disappointed if I can't hear my music half the time the IQ system is on.
    Cheers,

    Mickey

regardless of what he says, I reckon it can be done. Worse case scenario is the 5v doesn't work so you have to spend $15 on a 5v relay.

Yeah well I want to try it anyway...because then if it works, I'll roll back in, prove him wrong and ask for my install money back because he doesn't know what he's doing lol.

First of all, who ever is installing your sound system, sack them because they don't sound like they know what they're talking about. Mate just wondering how you went with this because i am looking at doing the same thing.??

Sorry to bring an old thread back up :-)
