Hi, dont know whats happened but i was driving along yesterday with the sound up fairly loud when all of a sudden it all just stopped, no bang or pop or sizzle, just nothing! now i cant get any sound at all... my headunit still lights up and works perfectly but nothings coming out
I am running 2 JL Audio Subs with a Class D monoblock 1400 and a 480 watt 4 channel amp
I have check all the fuses and its probably a very straight forward answer but any help is appeciated!
thanks![]()
check the ohms on the subs with a mulimeter
also smell if there burnt
Check the voltage at the amp with a multimeter. Sometimes fuses don't look blown but are stuffed and you get next to no voltage under load
Ill have to pick up a multimeter somewhere and check.. is there anything else that might be it, someone suggested i burnt out my amp? or something like that
there was the faintest of burning smells when it happened but that dissapeared qucikly and now there is no smell
Check your audio cables? Are ur rc connections secured or just loose fit? Do your amps still power up?
Do you have amped speakers or is it just the sub? If it's just the sub take it out of the box. If the voice coils gone it will reak
This happened to me the other day. The RCA's had been broken off in the socket (bad driving on my part, sub was floating round in the boot lol), so got a new amp (couldn't get one of the RCA's out -_-) and after hooking it up lost allllll sound. HU was shorted, when i took it out to test with multimeter you could smell it was burnt. there was no fuse on my HU, bloody Schneider POS..
anyway.
what Headunit do you have, has it got a fuse on the back? smell anything? do your amps light up?
JVC headunit, checked the fuse in the back and its fine, the amp doesnt power up though so its probably that, could be looking for a new amp i guesshaha
Amp doesnt power up, think thats the problem... having someone check it all out tomorrow
Could you smell anything as staited above just after it happend/just before?
Did your amp get hot much? no airflow is a killer..
i know my sub did for about 10 sec before and a hour or so after.. (electrical burning) what you get from 1300 wat sub on a 5000w amp :\
there was the faintest of smells, so faint i didnt know if it was coming from the car or outside,
the amp wasnt warm but nowhere near hot
It's was the fuse that connects the the battery, didn't look blown but the positive end had burnt out giving no power to the amp
lol, that happened 2 me once, you need a bigger fuse

Your fuse size should be based on your wire size. It's to protect the wire. If you need to draw more current you need bigger wire. The fuse there should be bigger than all the fused loads that are running off it.
was it those tube type fuses? ive had a couple of them go dodgy on me b4 and all it was the end caps that came loose and lost connection giving me an intermitten cut out. it did leave a bit of burn on the wire due 2 it arcing wen it made contact, mayb thats all urs did?

yeah it was the tube fuse, the guy said that the ends tend to burn out giving no power while leaving the actual fuse looking fine. I had a 60 amp fuse in, the guy suggested an 80, should i go with the eighty or stick with the 60?
What size wire do you have?
i have the same problem i blow mine very often i would say ive blown between 25-30 fuses ive had it checked over quite a few times had it completly rewired still does it
Get on it!!
Mines running on a 150AMP fuse (came with 120AMP in the kit but it blew from short-circuiting and had none left) and I'm running 800WRMS into 2 ohm. I suppose if you're running half the power you'd need half the size fuse.
Your wire size determines the size fuse you need. Your amplifier power then determines your required wire size. 150a for 800rms sounds way too big. I hope it's decent sized cable
I am having the same problem as first stated. Basically;
Other night, was replacing a switch for my driving lights, had acc. on, listening to stereo. Then turned it off to go inside for bit, then turned it back on and no sound.
Have checked all fuses, everything has power.
Set up runs as follows:
Battery>Fuse>Amp
I am mighty confused, have checked connections on amp with multi, getting 12v thru remote with acc. on, but nothing through B+? Never checked before, is this normal? The LED on the amp is on and so is the head unit.
Have tried different RCA's, disconnecting sub, everything I could think of, looks to me like amp is dead.
Didn't touch any wiring to do with the amp or anything. Am going to try a different amp in next few days, mean while any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks

B+ should have 12v at it. Fuse is probably blown. They don't always look blown. Take the fuse out and measure the resistance across it.
r use ur DMM and check 4 continuity on either ends of the fuse, then fuse holder.
