hey audio guys and girls. does anyone know if Polk Mono Subs are anygood? i got a quote from an installer and he is going to custom build a box for my car around a 425watt rms dual coil 4 ohm Polk Mono Sub. my amp is capable of 400watts rms at 2 ohm. he is quoting me 500 for the sub, box, install and re-tune of the amp.

Polk are good but expensive. If you have the money then go for it. $500 is pretty reasonable though.

Polk make great gear, the momo was the high end. I used Polk MM subwoofers in my car and I rate them very highly.

!! thats the exact sub range he is quoting me on!! the Polk MOMO MM sub that has dual 4 ohm voil coils!!
what do you think? do they output good sound? what amp are you using to power your sub?

they seem pretty slim to me, but they are not classified as slim subs. apparently Polk used some high density magnet or something to cut down size?

Yeah they are quite slim, though not 'slimline'. They still provide great kick, I am using two of the single 4ohm 10" MM subs. They are in a sealed box, with ~0.9cubes each and going well. Lots of good punch, not very good low low end but thats to be expected for sealed 10's. I am running them off a Rockford Fosgate t10001bd mono, rated at 1500wrms @ 1ohm on the birth sheet, however I am obviously running it at 2ohm which is still 1000wrms, they seem very happy with that.

But yeah, I compete in SQ and they do quite well for that, very very responsive which is what I look for (listen to metalcore, electro house etc sort of music). Very good sub in my opinion, for the money.

I've never had a Polk sub, but I'm running Polk MOMO MMC-6500 with the carbon-fibre cones, and man the mid-bass can hit quite hard, I love these speakers a lot.

ok cool, im getting a 12" MOMO in a custom ported box which the installer is constructing for me to suit my car and amp. i like good SQ but also like loudness so SPL is important too. so the box is getting tuned so that i get a good mix and compromise between both SQ and SPL. hopefully il have a good sounding setup at the end of the day

i have also been looking at this JL sub for a while but the installer gave me a good package so i went with what he suggested but its not to late to pull out i think and supply my own sub and get him to build a box to match it. this is the sub: Sound Master Car Audio - ($409) JL Audio 12W3V32 12inch Subwoofer 12W3V32

what do you think is the best sub for my money. this JL which is more expensive, or the MOMO which is less and is just convinient cos i dont need to hav it shipped to me like the JL?
    thanks

If you haven't bought it yet, there is a mob up here in Brisbane selling the Polk MM1240 12" Subwoofer, which I think you are looking at, for $289. Build your own box for $50, pay some shipping and mate your laughing.

Ummmm I wouldn't do that mate, admins/mods will get up you for stuff like that.

Also only technical posts/threads threads count, so not stuff like My Ride or the Pub.
