Hey guys, a mate of mine told me that by hooking up some LEDs to some speaker wire coming off my amp, they will flash to the bass of whatever song is playing.
I did a bit of research and a lot of people thought this was a bad idea. I was wondering if, with the correct resistors and lights, if this is possible to do yourself without the lights blowing up/car catching on fire?
I've also heard stories of people getting defected for 'impersonating a police officer', so a switch seems like a good idea
This is my first post on just commodores so be nice![]()
You can buy kits from audio places like wow that sell neons kitted with a bass sensor...actually hooking lights into your amp sounds like a terrible idea man...try searching even eBay...I wouldn't recommend trying to run lights into the amp :/
Also by the time you spend time and money on tryin to run them off the amp you could just spend the 30 odd bucks on a proper sensor built for the job...there is a lot of power coming out of amps it surely can't be good for little LEDs lol
haha, yeah true that, except ive heard those ones with the bass sensors are pretty relative to the volume, and either have to have the sensitivity adjusted every time you change the volume or they are too dim or don't pick up the music.
Would it be possible to get a resistor so the voltage doesn't get above what the light requires, therefore making it safer and the light will stay at the same brightness no matter what the volume is. I'm a noob at electronics so this could be a stupid suggestion.
Thanks man![]()
You can buy ones that you can hard wire in with your speaker wire then it controls the lights, another eBay job, they are a fraction more expensive, around 50 bucks
Oh awesome, that's exactly what im afterthanks man I'll check it out
ahk ive never used one so i wasnt sure haha...just seen them in shops and ebay...
i was thinking about getting one hooked up...but i could see it annoying the hell out of me
rather then lookin nice..
I would say as long as you only use it while you are stationary, you shouldn't be a rolling filthbait.... Probably.....
Just need any sorta strobe light .. Cheaper ones that plug into lighter socket... Cut wires and hook up to amp or to your sub and away you go flash flash flash
maybe ask the bloke who made this vid, instead of just flashing to just the bass this setup has mid and high frequencies too which looks pretty good.
That looks awesome, I will definitely message this guy. Blue and red lights from under the dash would look cool lighting up at the low and high notes.
Ok, I found my solution in a really old Dick Smith 'circuits for beginners' book, haha. Cost about $30 for parts and took a few hours to put together, but heres the end result
looks sweet man...is it going in your boot or in the front somewhere?
interesting man, do the flashes change and become more fequent wen u turn the volume up more or does it stay the same steady flash through any volume of beat in the song?
u mentioned somthing about having 1 4 each channel is that how these r beng wired up through each individual speaker channel?

Thanks dudeI was thinking about putting it in the little compartment under the head unit so that it doesn't light up the whole car and attract unwanted attention. It'd be easy to have a switch that the driver could reach then too
and I put in a variable resistor - kind of like the volume dial that you can turn up (increase resistance) if you turn the volume up so the lights dont just stay constantly on. And for your second question, they are tapped in to the + and - of a speaker wire (doesn't matter which speaker) and when the deck sends the power to the speaker to make noise the LED's get the power at the same time which makes them lights upSome light up at different times because they have a higher resistor on them so it takes a louder beat to light them up.
Looks sick man , I saw these at autobarn the other day . Used to have a set in my old car . Never new you could tap into the + and - on a speaker wire
