Hello all
i have looking at buying a system for my ute
so far im going with a 10in polk mm sub and 6 1/2 mm speakers
i have been recommend this amp buy someone at an audio shop
JL AUDIOŽ XD500/3 3-Channel XD-Series CAR AMPLIFIER AMP | eBay
The amp can give
100W x 2 + 300W x1 @ (2-Ohms)
75W x 2 +180W x 1 @ (4-Ohms)
My speakers need
Power Handling (continuous)-125 w
Nominal Impedance-2.7 ohms
My sub needs
Power Handling (continuous)-350 w
Nominal Impedance-Dual 4 ohms
will this work if not
then what will can would i be better off running a monoblock for the sub and a 2 channel amp for the speakers
im getting a asr audio to do my head unit so can it be done with the mono block and 2 channel amp way??
as i said i know not much about this stuff any help would be good
thanks for your time
Yes you could do it with a mono block and 2 channel amp however your head unit will have to have 2x preouts if not you will have to get RCA splitters hope this helps
Also the problem with running only one amp for both your speakers and sub is that a) your speakers and sub/s won't get as much power as you would like them to as they are sharing the same 3 channel amp so if I was you I'd go the mono block/ 2 ch amp option but that's just my 2 cents lol![]()
do they still sound ok with rca spliters?
if you have to amps you have to run to amp wiring kits yer?
is HIFONICS a good amp brand?
i dont have to get a polk amp? do i
what brand makes a good amp
will running 2 amps smash my battery up?
im running JL front splits, JL rear 2ways, 12" polk MOMO sub all off a 5ch JL amp and i love it! from my experience JL and Polk make realy good products. i have never used anything from highfonics so cant help you there.
seeing as you are building a system for a ute your space is alittle limmited so i would sujest going with the 3ch amp (or 4 ch amp with the 3rd and 4th ch bridged for your sub) just to save on space and reduce the amount of wiring running through your car.
also with powering your sub some people like to over power them alittle, others like to under power? personally my amp is pushing 400 watts rms at 2 ohms to my MOMO sub which is rated at 425 watts rms at 2 ohms and the sound quality is amazing. best to give yourself a little bit of head room but not so much that you dont reach the subs potential.
dont all the mm subs run at 4 ohms
but if you bridge cant you get bad sound from you speakers thats what i have been told
so there hifi stuff is no good i was looking at that stuff thank you
to have 2 amps is it over kill?
like i have been told mono blocks make the sub sound better

my polk MOMO mm 12" is a dual voice coil 4 ohm sub rated at 425W rms. when you wire it in parallel the sub will be looking to draw 425W rms @ 2 ohms now instead of 4 ohms. the dual voice coil subs give you heaps of wiring options so they more times than often match up well with different amp set ups.
The RCA splitters are for the back of the head unit so that you can send the signal to both amps with out the the need for a head unit with 2 x RCA preouts . And as for running 2 x amps install a 4 gauge amp wiring kit but run the main power wire to a fuesed distribution block and than run 2x 8 gauge power wire from there to Both amps keep in mind if you don't have a fused distribution block Make sure you fuse any wire that drops down in size from a larger size unless you want to burn your pride and joy down. Lastly please make sure that if you do use a distribution block don't use 8 gauge wire for power than 4 Gauge ground wire it will burn your amp and or your car down for example: run a 4 gauge power wire from you battery, to your fused distribution block than run two separate 8 gauge wire to each amp and then ground 2x 8 gauge ground wire that is touching bare metal and please fuse your power wire as close as you can to your battery hope this helps
i think i would be best off running 2 amps
HIFONICS HFi100.2 2-CHANNEL CAR AMPLIFIER AMP HFi-100.2
HIFONICS HFi1000.1D CAR MONO AMPLIFIER AMP HFi-1000.1D
with the sub contorller coz i dont have much play with the stock head unit
i really need that controll of the sub coz i might not want the sub on all the time if i have a 4 channel with a bass controller it will kill the bass to every thing i do not want this at all
what other brands of amp are good?
i cant find a mono block thats not hifi in HIFONICS that this guy is selling
HIFONICS ZXi-200.2 800-Watt RMS CAR AUDIO AMP ZXi200.2 ( i think it could be over kill lol 4 ohms: 200 watts x 2 chan.
2 ohms: 400 watts x 2 chan) i can adjust it down???? to suit
HIFONICS HFi1000.1D CAR MONO AMPLIFIER AMP HFi-1000.1D should be ok for a sub they can not be that bad review are good on them
Thanks for your time
The JL amp you originally suggested will run your gear. I have just bought a JL Audio XD600/6 6-channel which is very small for the output. They are D class amps so run very efficiently as well. Another bonus with the JL amps is that you can buy a separate channel control so if you only have one RCA output and use a splitter you can still remotely control one channel of the amp with this control.
The higher the output the better but it comes down to you. As in setting the input sensitivity of the amp correctly and not driving the speakers to clipping.
Some basic rules are –
To increase the audible lever by 3db which is the amount you need to make it actually “sound” louder you basically need to double the output of the amp. So a 100watt amp won’t sound louder than a 70watt one. It will probably deliver a cleaner (less distorted signal) for the same output though.
It is preferable to run a higher powered amp into lower powered speakers than to try to drive high power speakers with a low powered amp. That said it again comes down to common sense. Any audible distortion is hurting you speakers and probably you amp.
Have fun with it all mate. I started playing around with it all about 30 years ago and every car I’ve owned has had some kind of treatment. And seriously it has never been as good as it is right now for gear.

Hi
The reason I was thinking of using 2 subs is
I want to be able to controll the sub some times I will want the sub like nearly off but I still want bass from the door speackers. What would you do for $200 more I can have 2 HIFONICS amps (not hifi ones butis amps) ????
2 amps will be shit to run I'm afraid that with the sub it will do damage only running at like a 1/3 of the power??
Thanks for your time
For just normal use, there is nothing wrong with the entry level Hifonics amplifiers, its still going to be better than entry level kenwood etc IMO, Maxxonics make Hifonics as well as other brands, usually good quality gear. There's nothing wrong with using it for a normal setup.

Easiest solution in the world. Wire up a switch. Switch on subs on switch off subs off.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
if you dont want a switch, theres always a amp with a "bass boost control remote" what ever they call them,
