hey all, im looking at doing the audio in my ute soon when finances allow me haha but so far these are the components im looking at:
Pioneer Double Din H/U: AVH-P4350DVD Double-Din Multimedia Player with 7-inch Screen, SD card input, iPod Control, USB and Aux-in - Pioneer DVD Player & Screens
Rockford Fosgate 6.5" Competition Level Splits for in doors,
and either a 10" or 12" sub and amp combo not 100% sure yet.
Im not looking to blow any systems outta the water im just after a loud system with high quality sound and good bass haha so i just wanted peoples ideas and opinions on my choices and maybe a good sub/amp, also just wondering what were peoples opinions on a four speaker stereo in a ute? i think it may be an overkill but personal opinions welcome, thanks guys
Four stereo speaker in a ute is very pointless, will sound a lot worse than a good two speaker stereo. Whats your budget for your front speakers / sub / amps all up? If you are set of getting a sub, I would suggest a 4 channel amplifier to run your splits off the front two channels, and sub bridged off the rear two channels. I probably wouldn't recommend the RF splits though, i've heard most of their speakers before and don't rate them. If you let me know your budget I can make a few suggestions.

I run dynaudio components in the doors/tweeter holder, some Italian brand (something to do with tornado) to power them, and a soundstream tower amp to power a soundstream sub in the inspection panel under the tray, all running through the stock head unit - it sounds fantastic.
4 speakers in a ute sounds like poo, you're much better off with a single set of good splits.
ohk yeah i wasnt keen on 4 speakers my mate has them in his vu and its only loud bit not great quality haha and that sucks about the rockford speakers then i thought they were supposed to be good haha
@ sweefu you reckon its best to amp the speakers rather than run them off the H/U for SQ? i dont really have a budget i just save up for what sounds the best but i dont plan on blowing S###loads on it haha what would you suggest for good SQ and price? like i said im not looking for entering comps just make some good quality loud noise haha
@ one_and_only2004 ive heard of soundstream how do they sound for price?
in my old ute (98 dual cab rodeo) i had a clarion H/U with direct ipod and whatnot, Clarion 4" 2 way in factory spots, Kenwood 3 way 6x9s in custom box behind rear set and 10" Fusion Tube sub and amp combo and i was pretty happy with how it sounded
Yes, running the speakers off an amp is better always, even a crappy amp will be better than a headunit most of the time. A headunit produces 12-18wrms, its nothing. As for SQ, yes again, I have 500wrms running to the front stage of my car, which I enter in SQ competition.
Whats your budget like? For a lower budget, look at perhaps a Jaycar Response 4x100wrms amp. This will give your splits plenty of power and still have ~380wrms @4ohm for your sub, very nice figures. Similarly for splits with a lower budget <$300 i'd suggest maybe some Morel Maximo, Crescendo Opus 1, Morel Tempo, Boston S60.
Don't forget wiring, this will be around $80 ish.. Are you installing yourself? A little bit of the budget going to some sound deadening for your front doors would make a massive difference to the output and SQ of your splits.

yeah ill probs install most of it myself, and yeah i was looking at wiring, is that aerpro stuff any good? its seems the same as all the others. ive never heard of any of these brands of speakers either haha what about like pioneer and kenwood and clarion? are they the same as the other ones just with a brand name or whats the go? and sound deadening defs worth it? cos whats it change and is it hard? sorry with all the questions haha i just like to know everything before i jump in to something lol
i can recommend that headunit...ive got one in my car and it runs great![]()
thanks kcpwns i love the full touch screen and i dont want it to look too aftermarket haha
also @sweefu are these ones alright: Alpine Electronics of Australia
The brands I quoted are all very good brands, you will see many people with 'high end' car audio systems using these brands. The models quoted are the brands entry level components, very good, much better quality, much more refined and an overall better sounding experience compared to the equivalent Kenwood or Clarion speaker. Though, this is all in my opinion. I urge anyone I talk to about car audio to go and listen to speakers before buying them, ultimately you must like how they sound; you are the one listening to them.
The DDL splits are quite nice, though like all Alpine speakers I find the tweeter a bit loud and harsh. The retail on those speakers is ~$450 - ~$500 isn't it? Again I would take many other sets of speakers over those for that sort of money.
Aerpro gear is fairly reasonable. I have used all Aerpro 'Maxcor' power / earth / fuses in my car until recently, I rate it highly because it is fairly good quality, easy to install and easy to find. It will be more than fine for your system, they do a '4 Channel 4 Gauge wiring kit, available for around $80, this would serve you very well, as it comes with speaker wire etc and everything needed.
You still haven't said, what is your budget? :P
EDIT: I see you linked me to the coaxial speaker, not the component system. These cost similar money to the component speakers I suggested, and will not sound nearly as good.

on the website it said the DDLs were $230, and i was only looking for coaxials cos i dont think the vz ute cabin has tweeters in it? im not sure, are components better speakers to go with for me? and im not sure on my budget haha but id say probs up to and around $300 for speakers, $800 to $1000 for sub/amp/box, the headunit is $600 and whatever else ill need like wiring ill just get. ill google them brands now cos im on my tafe lunch break haha
The utes do have tweeters they live up the front near the windscreen - same place as sedans.
Soundstream is fantastic stuff, it's a bit pricey though.
Component speakers are much much better, your ute does have tweeters in the corners of the dash. Where abouts are you located? There will be a shop near by which stocks the products I am quoting then you go listen and choose what you likeThats a fairly big budget for the sub/amp/box/wiring, so be sure not to skimp on the speakers, these are afterall, where 100hz to 25khz of your sound is coming from :P.
For sub, i'd recommend something small, though slimline subs often have a reduced output due to their design. Look at the Polk MM 10" range, these are not a shallow mount sub however are not very deep. Similarly for a ute i'd also recommend something like the Focal Bus 25 series, its a small subwoofer complete with amplifier, box. Its a self contained active unit. You could run one or even two of these, they easily fit under the seats or behind the seats. Then it just leaves a small 2 channel amp to run your splits. Or go with a shallow mount sub, find a box which fits or have one made, then get a 4 channel amp and use rear channels bridged for sub and front channels for the splits. The Focal active sub may be a good bet, they have fantastic output for their size and you don't have to worry about finding a box to find or anything. The Focal sub/amp/box active all in one setup retails for $549 so its well in your budget, with a enough left over for perhaps a small Jaycar 4x50wrms amp bridged for your splits, or whatever is one sale at JB Hi-Fi or wow.

oh there is sweet ill get components then haha and im in orange which is about half hours drive west of bathurst
and ill have a look at the polk subs cos i was looking for a slimline or shallow sub, however my mate had a small sub/amp/box in his old ute which sounded crap, it just vibrated everything and didnt really put out a deep or loud note, i have a tendency to like the bass taking over sometimes haha also id say ill port my sub so its deeper/louder
and budget wise it was just a rough guess haha im not sure whats worth the money for the sorta sound im after haha
but still thanks for all your time helping me with this mate![]()
That's alright mate, its better to do it first time round rather than buying some crap from supercheap then looking to upgrade 2 months later :P
Ported boxes often need to be a lot larger, you really won't have room for one in your ute.

Option Audio - Incar Entertainment, Sub Woofers, Speakers, LCD Screens Mate has the twin slimlines and a amp to suit,
6x9's & 6' splits Unknown but sounds real nice
oh ok, i was just gunna listen to it for a bit then see if it woulda needed one and i would have cut a hole out and put that air pipe stuff in haha
how about this polk sub i found: POLK AUDIO® MM1240DVC 12" CAR SUBWOOFER SUB MM1240-DVC | eBay
yeah ive thought about option audio are they any good?
Option audio speakers I wouldn't go near, amps I wouldn't either, though they are cheap power, not very reliable though, dodgy circuitry tends to #### out.
Polk subs are good, very good. I use two 10" in my VY (Sedan).

http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/...ure-heavy.html
yeah i had a feeling they were a bit of a cheaper brand, so i think ill go the 12" polk sub cos it seems pretty good and still affordable,
also i found these for speakers: Morel MAXIMO 6 6.5" Car Component Speaker System 6.2 | eBay the ones you recommended, would they be good for just general quality sound?
also is it worth it buying them through ebay overseas or better to find a store that can order them in for me? if thats possible with these brands haha
That is very possible with these brands, any decent car audio shop will stocks brands such as these, its only JB Hi-Fi and wow that stock the 'common' kenwood, clarion etc. Are there any shops near you at all? Will probably work out cheaper from a shop.

actually sweefu just looking again i can get two 10"s for around $300: 2 POLK AUDIO® MM1040DVC 10" CAR SUBS WOOFERS MM1040-DVC | eBay
maybe if i buy them, then two sub boxes: CUSTOM MADE SUB WOOFER BOX FOR VU,VY,VZ UTE,HSV MALOO | eBay
thatd be pretty hectic bass haha or to much do you think? i just like evenness haha
sorry didnt see your reply haha i only have autobarn and super s### auto but there is a custom install bloke intown, he mainly sells fusion but i can find out if he orders in, and closest jb hi fi is all in sydney which sucks ass
If you consider going to Sydney, Go to FHRX studios, see Marty. He will sort you out with some awesome gear at a good price, just tell him your budget. That would be easiest haha

fhrx studios, whereabouts would that be? i dont mind driving to sydney haha take the missus and visit relos lol
hes had his option subs and amp for about 6 months, still nothing gone wrong. dont think they would last with me, ahah...
Would suggest my system, but my box is that frekin big i can just get my spare out of my boot with bending the plastic floor up!
