PIONEER AVH-P4300DVD 7" TOUCH SCREEN DVD/MP3 CAR PLAYER
Hey guys, I currently have a VU head unit in my VX S-Pac which means no rear door speakers which is so annoying.. So it's time to upgrade to a good head unit.
For now I just want the head unit but in time I will probably go front door/parcel shelf/sub combination unless someone can suggest a better combination.
So basically I need advice on this head unit, I will mostly use it with ipod connection, is this head unit good for my setup and future setups?
Anything you can tell me is awesome, thanks.
it looks good, id get one with gps if i were to get a double din, but if you dont need gps then ... get if if you want it
Thanks, how will it go for hooking up the extra 6x9's in parcel shelf and sub in boot? Will I need an amp or will this head unit take care of that? Information like this is what I need most.
Also will this cable IPOD TO PIONEER AVH-P4200DVD charge the ipod as it plays?
all units are designed for 4 speakers> 2 front and 2 rear, some head units can have 1 sub and 2 speakers, but umm with ur situation.. you are going to need some amps.. i would amp up the sub seperate and amp up all the speakers you are going to install, you shouldnt need 6x9s if you are going to run a sub,
with that ipod adapter.. it has 1 usb and 1 3.5mm jack.. the usb is what charges the ipod.. or if you dont use that cable, you can conenct directly in2 usb and it will charge and you can cntroll it through the head unit like scroll through songs etc
Looks similar to mine dude..I got the avh p4350dvd. Goes really great if it's like mine...I CBf looking up it's stats but you want something with full control of equalizer and high pass filter all that kinda jazz
With speakers and that run splits in front and just 2 ways in the doors, anything else is abit over the top. I'd recommend amping the speakers on their own 4 channel amp...go option audio if ya want heaps of power for a good price, thennnnnnnn run a sub and have a mono block powering this...
This helpin at all?![]()
Thanks guys, running amps and stuff is new to me but I think my mate can handle it. So from what I've read - this head unit is good and I will need an amp for the sub.
Sounds good to me.
Next hurdle is deciding the setup, everyone has different advice - I know my mate has 'front door speakers/6x9's in parcel shelf/sub in boot' and his system sounds good..
Nic92, you suggested 'front door/rear door/sub in boot' correct? Would this be better?
Is it possible to have 'front door/rear door/6x9's in parcel shelf/sub in boot'? Would this not be the best sound?
Sorry guys, I have very limited knowledge in this area lol. Cheers for your help
You can run front, door and 6x9 rears. But I think it would be over kill.
Generally 6x9's are only really necessary if you're not running much of a sub? (this could be wrong).
But I mean if you have a sub... I'd say you want clarity through your speakers and let the sub handle the doof doofs.
When I do my car, I'm thinking about just doing 6" door speakers (or there abouts), and front splits with a Sub
Then again, what I want from a sound system compared to what you may want could be entirely different.
I'm not entirely sure what I want haha.. Just something of good quality, can handle being up loud and has some nice bass to it.
Also guys, I have a gas tank in the boot, should still be able to fit the sub - but will it effect the sound from the sub in the boot?
yeahh all i am running is 4 door speakers and 1 18" woofer in boot on and 2 amps, 4 channel for speakers and sub on mono amp.
it makes the setup more simple with 4 speakers on a 4 channel amp and 1 or 2 subs or w.e on mono amp..
yes that is correct generally 6x9s are for the bass when ppl dont want to run a sub, but you can run them if you want, you wont need them thou if you got 4 speakers in doors.
you can run a sub with the gas tank, umm just gives you little boot space. some ppl put like 12" subs in the back corner of the boot, you can get some good boxes to fit that type of car on ebay or w.e just something to think about
having 6x9s isnt a good idea with a sub, if you got em on the parcel shelf coz the sub will effect how the cone moves on the 6x9, if the deck and amp has the capabilities you could only use the 6x9s for the tweeters it comes with, like tune the cut off frequency and w.e so that there is no bass coming from the 6x9s
if you want 6x9s thats ok you can run them off a 4 channel amp like have 6x9s on 2 channels and 4 6" speakers on the other 2 channels
run splits in front and 2 ways in the doors and a sub...dont need 6x9's mate...
some of the hardcore Sound quality comp guys only run splits in the front and a sub, so it depends
what sound ya after...but i would recommend the above set up (Front and back door speakers, sub in boot)
simple and covers all bases![]()
Thanks guys, I think I will go for this head unit and then follow with upgrading the front speakers, and getting a sub, putting both through an amp and seeing how I go from there.. My mate has this setup now and is getting 6x9's to replace the rear doors so i'll compare his sound to mine and make the decision from there.
Thanks for your help guys.
Another question though (lol), if I were to run the 4 speakers and sub from the one amp, how does the wiring go?
Is it one wire to amp from head unit, another wire from amp back to head unit and then speakers plug into head unit?
Confused about this part, thanks.
If you were to do that you'd probably have to run the speakers from 2 channels and the sub from the other 2, presuming its a 4 channel amp, however I'm not sure that this would give you very good sound/power to your sub.
Plus all your speakers will have the same sound, therefore there's no differentiating between the front and rear/left and right for memory?
Note: It's been a long while since I've played with car audio, so I'm not 100% sure the info I'm giving it correct.
run the front two as normal..and then bridge the rear two for the sub...
so the sub would be running off both the rear channels...
you would have to adjust the filters too so the sub doesn't try and play all the higher frequencies![]()
Don't start confusing things Nic92. Right that head unit you put the link to is pretty good how ever is in the US. Do you really want DVD? You haven't stated a budget at all. In regards to the setup I think your better off upgrading the head unit and speakers. Then if you decide it isn't enough later on look at getting a 4 channel amp to power the front speakers and a subwoofer.

Thanks mate, comments like this is what i'm looking for..
Budget doesn't really exist at the moment, something around the $500-600 mark is decent. DVD is not necessary but if it comes with it then oh well, can you suggest something of the same quality without DVD perhaps?
I know you said not necessarily with DVD but these is pretty cheap with decent features and around your budget.

Have you checked that a US model head unit will play Australian DVDs anyway?
If you're not fussed on DVD, just buy a good single DIN head and put a pocket under the head unit. Single DIN units generally offer more sound adjustment features anyway.
Thanks for the clarifications Stone X. I doubt US dvd players will play Australian DVD's due to different regions. I failed to expand on it.

The same product from an Australian ebay store is available for $20 extra, better get that to be safe
