Default Advice on splits and amp.

    Hey,

I am looking at getting some splits put in up front in my VT.

So far i have chosen this gear:

    Boston accoustics SR60 splits
Boston accoustic GT 275 two channel amp.

Does anyone have any advice or sugestions on other options?
Also how much roughly installation would be at a car audio shop?

    Thank in advance

I guess i can add some sort of reply as there hasn't been one yet. As with any components, the best thing you can do is listen to them yourself. Sometimes it can be difficult, especially as you move further up in price ranges. Stores decide which components they will stock based on which they think they will sell the most off. So direct comparisons aren't aways an option.

Also remember if you are doing direct comparisons on a display board for example, bare in mind what other components are being used during the audition. A lot of places usually use the best head unit they have as a source when demonstrating equipment. So ask them to use the same head unit for each test, and make sure it's something similar in price and performance that you are using, or plan on buying.

I haven't heard the "SR" range from Boston, but i did have the "SPZ" series in my last vehicle. I quite like Boston Accoustics range of car audio myself, and i've always liked their approach towards a more sound quality orientated line up, with simplicity and without the need to wow people through either specs or advertising.

With regards to the amplifier, my advice to people is always that the amplifier is the least important factor in any build. Yes they are nessacary when additional power is required, but if the money is directed more towards either the source or the speakers, then the differences are far more noticeable.

To me Boston Accoustics pricing in Australia is a little steep ( i imported mine) so depending on pricing for the amp, it may be worth while looking at a few other manafactuers.

Installation - If your buying all from the one store, then i'd imagine the total could be brought down a bit. If you rocked up to a store with a bunch of gear that you sourced elsewhere, then i'd expect to pay full prices.

I'd allocate somewhere between $100-150 per component for instalation.

I to am a fan of Boston Accoustics gear. I've got a set of the SR60's in my VN & am VERY happy with them. As mentioned by HCVP they are a bit pricey in Aus but still worth it IMO. I would go with a 4ch amp though to give you more flexibility in the future. Spend the extra to get a quality HU & speakers & you won't be dissapointed. Installations aren't usually too difficult so it may pay divedends for you to suss out if you can do the job yourself, if not then the prices mentioned above are about what you should expect.
