Ok i have around $800-1000 to spend give or take. Its going into a VY Berlina.
Im after a double din headunit with touch screen dvd/ipod/bluetooth/usb
Also a Sub/Amp, I dont know about speakers is stock good enough? and whatever else i would need wires etc.
Is it possible to keep the steering wheel controls aswell?
One last thing is installation, would someone who has no experience on setting all this up be able to figure it out or just get it professionally installed?
Thankyou any help would be appreciated![]()
At that price range I would suggest second hand gear, or else the quality may not be there. To be honest, there's no way you'll get all that for under $1k, the touchscreen headunits alone are $400+ It will cost ~$100 to keep using steering wheel controls too.
There's plenty of information on how to do it on the internet, so you should be ok to do it yourself![]()
I'm at work now, but I will reply later tonight, I could suggest some gear.

Ok I ended up just getting a headunit for the time being. I have just been trying to install it but im having a fair bit of trouble.
I have taken the stock unit out ok and thats about as far as i get.
Does the dash where the aircon, cup holders have to come out for the install?
I just rang JB HIFI and they have quoted me $250 for the install, so im hoping i can try and figure it out myself.
Most places should charge ~$80 - ~$12- for a headunit install. Try a local car audio shop

He said that because it was dvd/Bluetooth and gps it was half a days work so that why the price is so high. I might ring around some stores then because i would pay $100ish to get it done but not $250.
Although it is something i would like to learn how to do for future reference.
then you need to purchase the facia which is another $50
JB Hi Fi quoted you $250 because they don't know what they are doing. So it would take them half a day to figure it out, not because that's how long the job takes.
Ok fair enough. Is there any articles or pictured tutorials that anyone could recommend for a vy, had a look everywhere with no luck.
What are you having trouble with? the best bet for diy installs is to get a loom adapter from aerpro, most car audio/performance shops can get them. they convert your cars wiring to the brand of your head unit, so you can just plug and play.
Need some parts for my VH 253:
Green standard steering wheel...Green lower B-pillar covers.
Green sunglasses holder/lower dash bits...Air-con and assorted engine bay parts.
PM with any info.
This is just a copy of a PM I sent to someone else once:
Here's a link I found helpful:
Remove VY/VZ console
You may also need to remove the glove box to reach some screws. To remove the glovebox open it, pull at the rubber stoppers on both sides so that it drops right down on it's hinges, and then pull it outwards towards the seat.
You may also need to remove the fuse panel cover. This is underneath your steering wheel. Grab onto the plastic underneath the steering wheel and pull down. It will swing down on a hinge. You can then pull it out towards the seat like the glove box.
You don't need to do step 2.3 Floor Console Assembly. You can leave this bit in.
Once you remove all of the dash pieces and the headunit, there is a metal cage that the headunit was in. You'll need to pull down on this cage and bend it so it pulls out of the dash. Then it's as simple as screwing the fascia to the side of the headunit (screw holes should line up). Then slip the headunit into the dash and screw the front of the fascia to the bottom of the headunit slot, there should be two free screw holes, this will only be accessible once you remove the dash panel.
I suggest you sit your pieces of trim on some old sheets or something so they aren't damaged.
It is a lot of trim to remove, but it's not hard to do, just time consuming.
End PM.
Back to you:
Have you got a fascia? If not, you'll need a double din fascia like this: This includes a fascia, a VY plug to ISO harness and an antenna adaptor.
Question, what is the brand/model of your headunit? That way I can point you in the right direction for a ISO to headunit harness.
This here is an example of how the harnesses are linked together:
Harness example
The beauty of harnesses is that you don't have to hack away at the stock wiring, which becomes an issue if you want to sell the car and keep your new headunit.
Feel free to ask any questions, allow yourself an 8 hour day to complete the install, this maybe a lot longer than you need, but it is a learning process and it's great to take some time to see how your car is put together.
Too easy, those red, white and yellow cords are inputs/outputs for screens or amplifiers (yellow is video, white is left channel, red is right channel). You won't need to deal with these plugs (I think) unless you intend to hook them up to another screen or to an amplifier.
What model/brand is your headunit?
Have you got a fascia kit and an antenna adaptor?
Its a nuevo heres the ebay link: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/7-2-DIN-L...item35b0ea17c9
If you scroll down that theres everything that came with it.

on that head unit you are buying, you dont need to buy any extra iso's or harnesses, you may need to switch some wires around thou, but thats easy just a simple cut and solder then it should plug strait in to the original harness, the remote wire will need to go to the remote wire will need to be connected to the remote wire on the factory wiring also the hand brake switch just wire it to the negative on that iso plug
one the Blaupunkt head unit there is a diagram of the factory iso, it says what each wire is, all you need to do is match the wires from the factory one to the new one, (may need to change some, eg. on my jap unit i had to swap the + yellow wire with the red remote wire)
Just make sure that when you hook those harnesses up, that the wires in that picture line up with the stock wire colours here:
Accesories - Yellow
Constant - Orange/White
Illumination - Brown/White
Earth - Black/White
12V OUTPUT - Yellow/Red
Radio Mute - Yellow/Black (VT onwards)
Antenna up - White (VR onwards)
Antenna down - Blue (VR onwards)
Illumination OUTPUT - Grey (VT onwards)
Speakers
Front Left (+) - Tan
Front Left (-) - Grey
Front Right (+) - Light/Green
Front Right (-) - Dark/Green
Rear Left (+) - Brown/Black
Rear Left (-) - Yellow/Blue
Rear Right (+) - Blue/Orange
Rear Right (-) - Blue/Black
Ok sweet, im gonna go attempt it now. Thanks for the help
