I have two Soundstream Rubicon 12 subwoofers I`m wanting to box up and install this weekend. I dont know the exact models, but information I`ve been able to source suggests a volume of .75-1.5cf per driver (sealed).
I`m installing into a VS thats on gas, so space is tight as is. I asking what the volume (size) differance would affect spl and sql from 1.5-3.0cf.
Is there a optimal size, I`m after big punch bass.
Usually for a 12" sub 1.0-1.25cf works fine. Basically, smaller box = less volume (output), frequency response drops off at higher freq (less LOW bass), and I think it seems more "punchy" (responsive). Larger box is the opposite... More volume and more low bass, bot not as responsive due to less air suspension.
Read this for a good description of how a sealed box works: Enclosure Types: Sealed
so basically go for say 2-2.5cf? should give me what I want, also should I pack it with dacron?
Yeah, that should be fine for both subs. If you have dacron laying around, chuck some in. I wouldn't bother buying any. I haven't been able to hear a difference (before & after) when I've put it into my boxes.
