Instead of me giving my opinion on the gear, I think its better to ask what your budget is for your subwoofers / amplifier / install / wiring & box etc? And also, what are you looking for with the subs? That setup will cost you a LOT .. Probably is a cheaper / better option for the money you are going to spend.

Why does it have to be 2 subs? I can never understand.....Do people think that more of something automatically means it's better?

SQ comps - Look around, you'll see single driver installs in nearly every case.

SPL comps - Same thing, despite more drivers giving you increased surface area, most people still opt for the one driver.

Also, are really going to put $2500 worth of subwoofers in a VP Commodore? All good for you if you are, but yeah i don't get it, nor do i really ever see it happening. Happy to be shown otherwise though....

Good grief I love these threads. I have a pair of Rockford Fosgate 12's in a box sitting on my shelf that retail for $1500 from memory that I can guarantee will blow the socks off Type X's. Factor in what max 500 to 600 for a decent amplifier (I paired it with a Focal 400W RMS Monoblock RRP $600) Not much could compete with it.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like

Very inefficient subs, takes lots of power, makes as much noise as a cheap poineer.

They do sound clean, but dont have a very good freq response, needs a low low pass (~60hz)
Mine just never hit tight bass notes good, were hopeless on Metal type music, opposed to the T5 12"s i run now.

My pair at home being used as table legs for coffee table, coz they do have a nice looking basket.

FYI a type r will go louder just not as good sounding

M12 good amp too, 2x Duel4ohm R's n a M12 will distort ur vision slightly in a good ported box

Plus M12 wont run 2x type x, you would need 2x M12 as 2x type x wired to one will either be a load of 1ohm or 4ohm, m12 does does 1200w@2 or 4ohm, you need 2000w@1 or 4ohm

Are you looking for more sound quality, or outright volume Big low down bass, or tight punchy responsive bass? Does $2500 include wiring / install costs or is it all DIY?

I'll say what i'd do myself in your situation.
    Either:

2 x 12" Exodus Audio Shiva X2 @$319ea (These appear to be out of stock at the moment)
    or
    2 x DD151-D4 @ $469ea RRP
    or
2 x 12" Boston G312-44? @RRP $399 before discount These are on sale at FHRX in Sydney at the moment (Fhrx Studios Pty Ltd - Audio / Visual Specialists)

    Something along those lines perhaps?

I'll have a look around for amps then post back, by all means stick with Alpine if you can get a good deal or just like the way it sounds, no doubt it is top notch gear. I love the Type-x subs. But they are pretty pricey, the things i'm suggesting would come in maybe a little cheaper in the end, and still sound very very nice.

Price is pretty good, can you break it down? Online you should be paying around $500 / sub and $640 / amp at first glance?

Don't use the type x's unless your using the type x front and rear speakers as well. Alpine have designed the type x subs to work in conjunction with their type x speakers and they require huge amounts of good clean power( were talking 800wrms per channel minimum ). For bang for buck, go for Rockford fosgate p2's and a jaycar mono block amp- all for under $1000

Not all that true mate, like all Alpine gear it works better together. The F1 status gear was wonderful. The Alpine F1 Status reference disk was used for tuning through SQ competitions for a while, and it's true that the F1 Reference disk sounds best played through F1 audio gear, its designed that way. But it won't be a noticeable difference using Type-X subs with other speakers. I've used P1/P2/P3 subs and found the P2's to be fairly disappointing in output and their need of box size.

One IDMAX will suffice, add another at a later point if not happy
