    Default Amp w/switch

Alrite, So I park up and listen to my tunes so the radios running and Im gathering my Amp+Sub is still on.. Though I contol the settings Via the headunit.. I dont believe its fully off and still draining alittle bit..
When I bought the Amp + Wiring kit, it came with a bunch of wires.. Figured most out... and had a spare left over..(Which i do believe was for the 'remote') Part of the RCA cables it had a 3rd wire stuck to it.. I used that as my 'remote' for connecting H/unit and Amp.. had no problems..

So Ive pulled apart my car and put in the other cord I didnt use before..

What I want to do is.. Add a switch to the 'remote' wire so I can cut the power to the amp when I park..
Would this Turn the AMP off? and will I lose any quality sound?

Nah it won't do nothing to ur sounds mate I've dun it before n had no change. The remote wire is using the h/unit as a switch pretty much

Add a switch to a sub amp? so u can still listen to tunes but sub is off.

Or u want to put a switch in to turn off a amp when h/u is off, if thats the case the amp is already off if the remote goes to the remote in on the amp.

When u turn sub off thru the headunit menu, its just cuttin the signal to the amp, amp is still on.

If u just wanna turn off sub amp off while on radio u can just wire in a switch inline with the remote, but switch may break eventually due to the current.

Would have to be a good 12v switch, or hook up a relay n use the switch to control ground for relay

You don't need a relay. Remote wires draw very low current (milliamps). Most switches are up to this job.

You dont need a relay or a heavy duty switch for the remote wire the current is only milli amps alomost any half decent switch will do.
Also either way you will be drainng the battery with or with out the sub on.
But less with the sub off.
You could also wire it up when IGN is on then the amp is active and when ACC is on the amp will be off throught the remote wire of course.
No switch no problems but you will loose control over the amp if you go this route.

That's how mine is. By accident but works great.

Sub only goes on 2nd click

Ive stuffed the cheap jaycar red illum button switches on remote after a month, only got switched a couple times too.

I Doubt a missle switch would break tho, ive had one of those last 6months on thermo fan positive before it fried

Im sure they put out more than 1/2amp current

Relay is the way, and good for future amps being added n not having to worry about drawing too much from the remote wire/head unit

If the switch current limit is lower then the supply current then yes it will burn out. But if its well over or with in spec you will have no problems.
Also if you want to be sure see how much current the remote wire is giving out. Use a multimeter in sereise on amp mode.
If you were to run extra loads from the remote wire then i would use the relay but it is a safer option but the switch will work fine aswell

mmm, Well I do listen to my music quite alot... Anywhere from 5 mins to.. 2hours.. depends, I was playing my music in the driveway with the subwoofer and it wouldn't start within 15minutes.
My batterys becoming a bit old so it doesn't have the life it had before..
With the H/Unit I dont think it fully turns it off.. There 'power' button is still on at the amp unless u cut the remote wire completely.. I just wanna have some relief without worrying bout if my car is gonna start or not

new battery and ur switch wont b needed, make sure ur alternator is up 2 scaartch along with its regulator. The amp will just b in stand by mode pretty much so u wont b using any power, really only the light used 2 power the LED in there lol. But if ur gonna sit there 4 a couple hours u should really b starting ur car every so often.

If your battery is old and dies with in 15 mins get a new battery i would get a supercharge battery 600 cca.
    Also load test your alternator.
There is a thing called amp per hour.

Put the alternator under load. Eg have the car running and put on your headlights, high beams, aircon, rear demister the battery should be reading between 13-14v if its in this bracket i would say its ok you need a multi meter of cause.
Or you can go to a auto elec and and they will load test the alternator with the propper amp reading and voltage reading under load the best way to do it.

Does the amp stay on when you turn the car off, If you leave the switch on? I'd say your remote wire is not wired correctly as this shouldn't happen. When the headdecks off the amp should turn off.

It's not just running the led. The rails will be maintained at a voltage which has inefficiencies and uses power.

May be its been wired to constant power if it is always on.
Once had a car come in his complaint was he could only turn on his head unit on via the parker switch Lol.

At night with the headlights on and what not, You can hear the alternator whine under Revs.. I dont have a multimeter to test it so..

m1lky, Yeah it does turn off when I turn the headunit off

Alternator whine means nothing and could b just a bearing so ur best buying urself a multimeter and do wats suggested as it'll come in handy with lots of things.

u still havent answered milkys question? its like uve just put a band aid over a problem 2 fix it which really u havent.
