Hi, i have been told that if i disconnect the battery in my vz commodore i will need to enter the pin into the stock head unit when the battery is re conected. Is this true??
Thanks![]()
yes it is, i think all factory head units have a pin, the pin should be with the radio/car manuel
When we had our VZ a few years back Dad pulled the battery out to stick in another car temporarily, the battery was out of the car for a good couple of hours and when he put it back in he never had to reenter the PIN, it just worked. I think you only have to reenter the PIN if you actually remove the HU.

Not that I know...all I know is that the battery was out for a couple of hours, he put the battery back in, I reminded him that he may have to enter the PIN for the HU, but nup it just worked.

i remember like when my car gets serviced and i had the factory head unit we would need to put the pin in wen we got the car back
i think it may be time based. if your replacing a battery do it quickly i suppose. if you go to a battery shop they plug something into the cigarette lighter which keeps the radio powered during the changeover
all vy/vz the head unit is linked into the bcm so pin is not needed unless the head unit is put into another car
^^ As said above by "illusion" - you do not have to enter a pin on the VY/VZ models when the battery is removed.
Even if the head unit is removed and reinstalled a week later, a pin still isn't required. I have done this numerous times on my VZ and mates VY's/VZ's and never had to enter a pin to this day.
The computer system on these models communicate with the head unit and know if its the original unit or not.
It's only when you install the head unit into a different car, that's when a pin code is required.
An old thread - but thanks for the info guys. About to pull mine out, but didn't want to just yet if I needed my PIN (which I can't bloody find).
Cheers again!
Just to clear it up: The pin is stored in the BCM and is automatically unlocked when power is restored. So no, unhooking the battery has no effect other than resetting the time.
If a different head unit with a different pin was installed then yes, you would need it.
