I have a Pontiac G8 which I believe is a Commodore VE. I replaced my door speakers with Infinity Kappa's. I also wanted to replace the center speaker. I got a matching Infinity Kappa 32.9 (a 3.5"). But it doesn't really fit due to the depth.
Just wondering what Commodore folks are doing...
Hi mate, from what i've heard most people just disconnect the centre speaker when they upgrade the rest.
Hope this helps!
Silvermist,
As mentioned above the centre speaker is usually disconnected. The reason being that a centre speaker has no place in a 2 channel setup. Even if you have the rear speakers running, from the front seat you generally hear most of your music from in front of you. Having a centre speakers messes around with the imaging, and also makes it difficult to hear the speaker on the right hand side. You also end up with tonal indifferences between the 2 speakers even if they are from the same manafactuer and so forth.
The only time you actually want the centre speaker is if you have a multi media source and wish to play 5.1 audio. In which case the source generally is able to switch the centre speaker on and off. If you do have plans for a multi media setup, then i suggest modifying the centre speaker's bracket and housing to accomodate something a bit better than a 3.5'' driver. The majority of the dialouge that get's decoded from 5.1 format goes to the centre channel.
