Lol. No argument there. The entry level alpine stuff is a little bit ordinary compared to the Jaycar stuff. I've used them in the past and have nothing bit praise for their gear, but unfortunately they didn't fit in with my install, plus I got them at a rediculusly low price.
This is a setup for my VY Wagon exec. I have done everything myself.
I'm running a Sony USB H/U with 2 preouts (It's the same as the CDX-GT600UI just without bluetooth and band 7)
Alpine Type R splits in the front 110rms each (tweeters in the door).
Alpine Type S splits in the rear 80rms each (tweeters in the door).
2 x Sound-stream SST 12/2's DVC 300rms each in a ported Kicker comp box.
Fusion 4 channel amp CA-AM41200. 4 x 110rms @ 4ohm
Pioneer Mono-block GM-D8500M 1 x 600rms @ 2ohm
4 Gauge wiring all round. 4 gauge power to the distro block. 4 gauge power to both amps. 2 x 8 gauge ground in a 4 gauge lug for both amps.
Amps are mounted to my cage.
This setup so far has cost me around $1700 plus many hours of labour
Heres the pics.

Yep, spot on mate. This is just a trial, I have a few more spheres to cut up and use for the final product. Once it's all shaped and angled correctly, I will coat it in epoxy resin (apparently polyester resin will just melt the polystyrene), then fill/shape some more etc. Unsure on finish yes, possible some black vinyl similar to the dash.

Very interesting project you have ahead of you. You could even modify the dash vent where the stock tweeters are and somehow position them there, may look a bit more standard. Are you going to be running 2 or 3 way for the season?
I could do mate, but I think it would be difficult to get a nice angle, using the spheres it's very easy to get a good angle, then make them fit "in" as best I can from there. Sticking with 2-way active for this season (Unless the stereo bug bites again/I find a giant pile of cash). I might consider a 3-way later, but the challenge of 2-way is too fun. Using the SB17 midwoofer and SB29 neo tweeter, still using the Alpine 9855R for processing.

Nice work sweefu. Now for " yes officer, of course that's factory"
Bloody hell that was a quick turnaround! aha
Very nice looking pillarsAre your roof plastics all black right back to the C pillar or just the A pillar trim?
It was indeed haha pretty much 5 hours every afternoon for 3 afternoons, the guy I was working with is amazing, he would work from 530am until 430pm, get home then work with me until 930 at least, though today it was raining, he finished work early so we could finish early. The rest of my trim is standard, cream colour (roof lining, C pillar trims etc) only the A pillar is black, the vinyl matches the dash nicely. I like the contrast, there will be proper pictures after the competition on Saturday.

Some new goodies turned up today.
PXA-H800 processor
PDX 2.150 amp ( for front mid bass duties)
KWE-610A optical cable
Still waiting on my SPX-17PRO to turn up though.
Time to redo my boot install. Let the games begin.
Started on my new boot install today. My main objective with this install is to have all of my equiptment hidden in the floor, but have a removable panel so that I can display it as well. I still want to carry a full sized spare and not have to remove subs or amp racks or anything on the side of the road to get at my spare. So to day I've cut all of my MDF panels and trial fitted my amps and processor to see if it's going to work.
new H/U (finally)Sony XAV-72BT w/ steering wheel controls
still to come: new door pods/sound deadening & reverse camera if i can figure out how to wire it hehe
here is my setup in my vz wagon hard to make a box look in place in a wagon, but it still needs trimming and im going to buy
new audio gear when i get some money so i have stock speakers a shitty one din head unit and 2 sony xplodes and a bezerk amp
here it is with my rear bag system tucked in there aswell. the amp will be moved on top when i get a new 1 and a screen will sit in front of
all the air bag stuff flush with the rest of the box trimmed in neat.
