Hi guys,
First time in the audio section so be nice. I have had a search on this but hadn't really found an answer. I am going to have a crack at installing an amp in my VE sedan and just wondered whether it was safe to mount the amp upside down under the parcel shelf? Some do it and some don't so I just wondered if anyone had any trouble with doing it this way?
I feel pretty confident with doing this install myself as I have just replaced all of the stock speakers with better quality ones. I still feel it needs an amplifier though. I only listen to rock and heavy metal so don't see the real need for subs.
I've been quoted $150 to get the amp installed but I still feel the need to do it myself. What do you guys recommend? IS IT EASY?
150 to install an amp when the battery is in the boot is a rip off. Just do it yourself and buy a few slabs to rest your man balls on with the extra cash
Yeah, i thought as such. I still have to run cabling through the car though. That's my biggest worry.
What about the amp being upside down?
Keep ya power wire away from ya rcas if you can. Or else you'll get interference. I don't think it matters if it's upside down? Not sure..
Myne is mounted in the boot behind the rear seats, if that makes sence i got one on each side one for speakers and other for sub, Metal with sub sounds awsome specialy with the double kicks on the drums, sounds like a machine gun lol awsome stuff.
I don't have a VE commodore, but correct me if I'm wrong, isn't the stock battery in the boot of the car? I've read this a few times on the forum, not 100% though. But anyway, it's easy. I wouldn't suggest mounting an amplifier upside down because quite simply, they aren't made to be. They are built to dissipate the heat through the heat sink on top (heat rises etc.), if you hang it upside down you run the risk of all this rising heat building up around the amplifiers components, causing all sorts of trouble.
If you really want to mount from the parcel shelf, you can do something similar to me:

OP meant upside down as in heat sink still on the top just mounted to the underside of the parcel shelf. If mounted like this then it is ok.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
Yeah, I was thinking of using brackets like you. That would be the best option I think. Why the block of wood though? Can the brackets not go directly to the amp?
Not sure, at the time I think I did it for added strength, but it really doesn't matter.
The VE has a metal parcel shelf so I can screw straight into that with my brackets. Then I was going to connect the amp onto the brackets. That's the theory anyway![]()
