Hey guys
I just got some subs fitted to my 2009 ve sv6 and the boot ratles like crazy.
I thought it was the number plate and drilled it but it hasnt changed in any way, when i OPEN the boot, the noise goes.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Hussy
Really got fustrated with the ratle so i tryed to find out what it was, and i did.
were my spare tyre WAS ( under the boot) all the bolts and the flastics and the jack and etc was all there and they were vibrating like hell. Took them all out and no vibration.
Sorry guys.
dont you get the whole boot lid vibrating?
Dynamat is your friend!! get some to line your boot lid with, just about all vibration will go away. i run a 12" polk MOMO sub at 400w RMS and it rattled really bad before i got the Dynamat, but now there is no audible rattling at all
^^^^^^ Don't listen to this guy![]()
lol. ^, doesnt stop rattles..

Before i dynamated my front doors and boot lid, not only could i feel severe vibrations, but you could also hear the vibrations inside the car when the speakers/sub played certain frequencies. when the dynamat was applied it acts as a buffer, making it harder for particular frequencies to vibrate the door/boot skin to the point where it becomes so severe you can hear it over the music you are playing.
with my sound system i play a huge variety of music, i listen to rock, punk, electric, dance, metal, drum n bass, instrumental, vocals. Not just super wog DOOF DOOF out of an 18" sub that takes up my whole boot..
dynamt will have a different effect on everyone’s car because everyone has a different audio setup. with me it works fine because i have a moderately powered system that outputs good quality, not deafening levels of bass that create severe audible vibrations. the Dynamat does a good job at dampening those annoying audible vibrations that MY system creates.

i have a custom built and tuned ported box. its tuned between 32-35Hz cant remember exactly but 33Hz rings a bell. it was a while ago when it was installed. but it is definitely ported, i can easily put my fist into the box
Back to the OP's issue. The best way to solve this is to crank the bass and work out which panels are vibrating. If you can apply some pressure to those panels and that stops them vibrating, then adding some dynamat (ie. mass) will benefit. Also I suggest putting some rubber stoppers behind your number plate, so it doesn't vibrate.
I stuffed my boot skin and siliconed the smaller gaps. No dynamat yet but there are no rattles. Only noise is the boot lid lifting up haha
Oh and with my plate I used 4 small roofing screws with double rubber washers on each one and put a whole roll of that door sealing rubber you get from bunnings behind it.
I use heated duct insulation. I get heaps from work and it's really thick. Worked a treat in killin rattles.
