Hi Guys, I have just tried to install an aftermarket head unit in a VY commodore. I got it all installed etc, however I have a few problems:
1 - The passenger door wont lock automatically
2 - the unit wont turn on when i turn accessories on
3 - unit doesn't store the stations etc after they are stored
4 - I have no indicators (but car starts and i have lights)
When the unit is on, it works fine, turns off when i open the door, but wont turn on when i turn the accessories on.
Is there anyone in the Reservoir (Vic) area who would be able to help me?
Thanks
2 - you most likey have the acc wire and constant power wire mixed up just swap them around... This is a general problem with ISO connectors.
3 - question 2 will fix this
4 -plug the hazards switch in, that's most likely your problem
What MEESEN has said is correct. On your harness it is highly likely that the constant wire on the headunit is plugged into the accessories wire in the car, and the accessories wire on the headunit is plugged into the constant wire in the car. To fix this, simply swap the wires around on the harness you bought. You should be able to push the pins out of the socket, swap the wires around and then push them back into place. If not, cut them, strip them and solder them, covering the joint with heatshrink and/or electrical tape.
When you removed the dash panel, you most likely unplugged the loom for the hazard switch. The indicators will not work if that wiring isn't plugged in, the circuit isn't complete. You will need to remove your dash panel, and plug that switch back in.
As for you Passenger door, I'm not too sure about that one. It may be a related issue, it may be a coincidence. Fix these other issues first, if it then still doesn't work, perhaps make other posts about it in the VY Commodore section and the Wiring section, to try and get a better response.
Issues 2, 3 and 4 should be easy to fix.
Good work guys, i switched them around, put everything back together, and it was all working well, phew.
Thanks heaps.
