Yeah, people have used them and work brilliantly. The PAC SWI is also highly recommended. Aerpro also have an offering too, available from a few buyers on eBay.
Do you have a vehicle with steering wheel buttons and want to upgrade your headunit with a "high performance" system and realised the steering wheel buttons won't work?
If so you'll need THE CAT. It's a car audio steering wheel interface that allows you to replace the standard audio system, whilst retaining the steering wheel audio functions.
HOW DOES THE CAT WORK?
1. THE CAT recieves a signal when a button is pressed from the
steering wheel.
2. THE CAT then converts the signal to be understood by the headunit.
3. THE CAT then sends the signal either via infrared or direct connect
to the headunit.
No programming involved - frequencies are already programmed in therefore no delay between button presses.
so itll make the steering controls work with a aftermarket head unit.. souunds like a good idea
Im going to have to go to Autobarn and get one I think ! i cant help myself.

Are this thing and the one by Aerpro both straight plug and play? I have my headunit wired up with an Aerpro harness so how do the steering control harnesses connect up in that scenario?
From my experience, cat systems are way too expensive and they use infrared qnd if any thing comes in its way while u pressing the command frm ur steering wheel , it would not work, where as pac-swi systems works totally differently and are for like $90 and also support bluetooth handsfree comands. Me and my mate both got pac systems for last 6 mnths and theywork fine, even after u unplug car battery.
U have to select which 1 u after as there r diff system for different head unit brands
Okay, so what do people recommend and what other brands are their?

the CAT uses wired and infrared, but from memory it doesnt like vr/s with some wired units. would have to read the instructions
ive used the aerpro ones on a few cars, for the most part theyre pretty good, but still in the teething stages. pac swi is good, not sure if itll work with vr though, again, read the instructions, see if it supports it.
be aware that most of them will be limited to mostly the big name headunit manufacturers.
