Hey guys,
I've had a sound system before but I had a mate set it up for me.
Basically, in my VE I only want something pretty basic.
It's an SV6 2008 with the basic headunit (which will be changed to SSV unit at some point).
basically, What I want to find out is what do I need?
I want 1 sub, probably like a 12" and replace the 4 speakers in the car. (will be disconnecting the centre speaker).
Can I run all of this off of one amp or will I need to run a Monoblock for the Sub and a 4Channel Amp for the speakers?
Monoblock and a 4 channel works well in my experience.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
It's up to you really you have a few options.
If you do replace all 4 speakers, and are wanting to amplify them, then you'll need a 4 ch amp, and a seperate amplifier for the subwoofer. You could get away with running all 4 speakers at 2 ohm if you wanted to keep the remaining 2 channels of the amp free for a sub, but you would lose you front and rear fading.
If you chose only to amplify the fronts, then a 4 ch amp could be used to provide power to both front speakers and a subwoofer.
I'd suggest leaving the rears speakers out , or at least retaining the factories, and spending a little more in the area's that will make a difference.
Okay thanks. So when you say the areas that will make a difference what areas are you referring to if you don't mind me asking?
I know good fronts are one of the priorities, with the back though what kind of thing should I be looking at?
So basically the setup with 1 amp would be to run the Sub and Fronts from the Amp and leave the rears connected directly to the head unit?
When i say more important things, like spending more on the front speakers, or a better quality sub, proper and correct installation.
What do you want out of a rear speaker upgrade? There's no rear signal us music, your just sending the front signal to the rear of the car.
Yes, with a 4 channel amp, 2 channels can be used to drive your front speakers, the remaining two can be bridged together to form a single channel to drive a sub.
Cool.
I just don't want something as elaborate as I used to run. I want to minimise the clutter in my car basically. And have good audio. I'm not keen to have it too loud etc and get complaints.
I used a full Pioneer system last time and it wasn't bad. For a medium price range (not high end basically) are Pioneer still any good? Last time I spent near $3000 on the system.
I'm doing this in my VE at the moment. I upgraded all 4 speakers. Going to add an amp but not sure whether to amp all 4 or just the front 2 splits with more power running to them. Also going to get another amp for a sub in the future which I will run off an LC6 converter.
Noob question. What's this LCD6 Converter? What is it and what's it do? Is it required?
Its a line output converter, There a couple of ways to connect amps to a factory headunit.
Using a line output converter
Using an amp with speaker level inputs
Or the best way is to buy a signal processor and connect the amps to that, it also cleans up distortion from the headunit but its the most expensive option.
Also dynamat your doors or they will rattle with any sort of bass.
The LC6 has some adjustments that most line out converters don't. It's around $250 so not exactly a cheap option. I have speaker level inputs on the amp I bought so I'll be trying that out first. If that doesn't sound great I will also try the LC6. The LC6 is good if you want to add another amp for a sub because it already sends a signal to the 3rd channel for the sub amp.
Right lol. Whew, confusing hah.
Thanks for the info![]()
