This head unit: Newcastle Pro Sound - Clarion CX609A | Newcastle Pro Sound
These speakers: Newcastle Pro Sound - Nakamichi SPC60 | Newcastle Pro Sound
And this sub w/ amp: Newcastle Pro Sound - Fusion CS-AW2120 | Newcastle Pro Sound
Rounds off at about $900 in store.
Yes or no?
I'm not sure about the speakers how do they rate? Would you change anything for something else on that site keeping the price range the same?
Why would you want to put a coaxial that low in the door. Plus at that price , lets take into account mark up, they will honestly sound much the same as the factory ones you have.
Do you live near the store?
Just looked again, why do you want to spend $500 on a head unit and then pair it with such cheap speakers?
Buy a $150 head unit, and buy a set of $300 speakers, and the buy an amp to go with them.
Why not splits?
Why do you need a 4 channel amp for 2 speakers?
I suggest you go into the store for some advice, alternatively, if you've been in there, you've been given poor advice.
Why don't you want a split component system? Are you worried about the extra hassle with the instal, so your looking for something that will drop straight it thinking that's something you could easily handle? EDIT - just saw your last reply so i was right.
A coaxial will sound like rubbish mounted that low in the door. The centre mounted tweeter is too far down. Your standard speakers are a split system as it is from the factory. You have the 6'' driver in the door which handles the midbass / midrange, and a tweeter mounted either side in the upper corner of the dash.
I can't suggest another speaker for that price because it isn't worth while. Like i said take into account the mark up of the speakers, even at $80 or what ever, the quality of them is going to be on par with what you allready have. In fact i'll bet you my left nut (heck you can have both) that it will actually sound worse replacing them with a coaxial. Just because it's an "aftermarket" speaker, doesn't mean it is a better sounding speaker. Plus without external amplification, your wasting further time really.
Just go all out on the sub instead.
What do you mean 4 speakers? So you want to put a set in the rear as well?? Why??? What's wrong with the ones that are in there????
Well no aftermarket speaker is really going to make a major improvement without adding an external amplifier, this is why we have amplifiers in the first place.
Yes you have splits in the front doors all ready.
Kinda hard to hear a speaker in the rear door no?
Better yet, read this !!! - Planning A System On A Budget
If you re in the mosh pit at a Metallica concert, watching the stage, it would sound weird if the music came from behind yes?
Rear speakers are pointless and do nothing but disrupt your sound stage, unless of course you care about your passengers that much. Do yourself a favour, get a fantastic pair of splits for the front, that will go loud enough to satisfy the whole car. VX commodores come with stock splits, have a look up near the corners of your front window, those two grilles have tweeters underneath them.
The effort that you put into splits is worth it (even though it's not that much harder).
What fella? I'd stay away from who ever he is.
Why wouldn't you mount them where the stock one's are now?
Did you read the sticky?
Alright fair enough.
Now I know I can fit splits I WILL for sure.
I'll keep the stock rears, for now.
And the dual sub has the amp built in (I presume you already knew that)
So I'm under the impression I can only run the sub off the inbuilt amp as it's most likely mono?
I would go for this headunit JVC KW-XR616. I've seen it sell for as low as $199, so haggle. I own one, good little unit. Slightly laggy on ipod use, but I have done some research and it turns out that it's an issue that a lot of headunits have, which varies with ipod and iOS.
I would go with these splits Focal 165A1. Focal are a highly respected brand, make sure you have a listen to them in store to make sure you like the sound they produce.
And yes, that should be a mono block amp or a 2ch amp.
Focal have now updated their speaker range fyi. It's now the performance series and integration series.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
You can run any speakers off the head unit you like. They will just be limited to how they will play, and they will wind up distorting much earlier on, which by the way will be a case of the head unit running out of clean power, not the speakers reaching their limits. A lot of people listen to their speakers and they tend to think why bother with an amp when i can all ready make them distort.
The Focals reccomended to you are quite good, i find some Focals can be a little bright, but for a decent set of speakers for a beginner, it won't matter one bit. Also if you went with the cheaper head unit, then you could add a better subwoofer package. If you think the subwoofer package you have in mind will be adequeute, then use the remaining money to get a 2 ch amp to run the fronts.
Oh, and the JVC unit Magoo linked you to is a decent buy too man, it's got everything most people need in a head unit, and you can change the colour of the display (if the pink was putting you off.) Take it from the people who know, rather than deciding on which one you think is the best just by looking at pictures on a website.
Best of luck

Alright, ended up getting spilts for the front, and those same 2ways for the rear just cause they were cheap.
Now, do you's have any idea on how to pull the VX dash trim off?
What did you end up buying?
Search there are tutorials i cbf doing it.
im going to have to disagree with you there ... although the rear speakers are not as important as front speakers ... they are still important ... perhaps not splits in the back but a decent set of coaxiels ... at least that way when he decides to amp them ... which will happen he doesnt have the added cost of a rear set to ... i would recomend saving your money and trying to buy something better ... especially with 30w rms ... for 160 you could buy alpine type s coaxiels for example ... you should shop around and you will find that what one shop says is not always the case
my first system i got i went to the shop down the road and had no idea what i wanted except for this ... new speakers a sub and an amp ... i ended up paying 1300 for the worst stuff in the world ... moral is ... do some research and in that time continue saving ... i garuntee you will be happy with what you end up with ...
it is important to look at RMS power with car audio not just max ...
sorry for the lecture ... but i just hate seeing people make the same mistakes that i made ...
but for the price of those focals you could put R type splits in ... which are an excelent speaker
dont get me wrong i love focal ... i run 2 sets of focal splits in my car ... but if you want a great speaker for 300 you cant really go past the r type
they are capapble of having the ass flogged out of them and still be an excelent speaker ...
